If the Awaken spell is cast on an animal with a decent wisdom (owl or wolf, for instance), would that animal develop an alignment? With wisdom and intelligence come awareness. Wouldn’t the animal begin to ponder the world and its place in it? Wouldn’t he/she/it try to make sense of good and evil, order and chaos?
Also, this isn't a Wizard spell. Why post this in the Wizard forum?

A CR-0 eagle would have a 10 Intelligence and a 14 Wisdom. So would a CR 1/4 panther, or an almiraj. Heck, Rime of the Frostmaiden has a creature called an "Awakened White Moose" that has a listed alignment. And since a regular moose is considered "unaligned", it must be the Awakening that caused the aligned condition.
Any creature with the capacity for self reflection will invariably consider its place and its role in the world. How the creature attained that capacity - whether it is inherent or the result of a magical change - should not matter.

That's what I was thinking as well. There may be unintended consequences if someone Awakened an animal companion and it developed an alignment contrary to theirs.
