Hey all! First post on here. Was hoping to get some opinions on a possible multiclass progression for my Bladesinger. I'd be looking to take (probably) no more than 3-4 levels of Fighter to grab the Echo Knight subclass and maybe the ASI/Feat. Our campaign's been going pretty strong. I'm not sure we'll hit lvl20, but it seems reasonable to expect hitting somewhere between lvl 12-16. I also feel like it's a safe bet to not multiclass until after hitting Wizard lvl 6, for multi attack.
Current Stats: Wizard 4 (Bladesinging), took ASI (DEX +2) at 4th lvl
For roleplaying purposes, the character is Half-Elf (Drow), so I really enjoy the "shadow" theme that this could strengthen. There have also been some pretty scary survivability moments in combat so far, so the character may be looking to the Fighter (Eldritch Knight) in the group to help shore up her physical weaknesses during downtime.
I also think that going fighter after 6 is a pretty good idea, because if you'd multiclass after 4th, you'd miss 3rd level spell's. If you multiclass after 5th, you'd fall further behind in terms of melee combat, getting your second attack only at level 9.
That said, multiclassing a wizard always seems bad because of what you give up. You need to think about how much you want the echo features. If you would really want them, I'd say pick as soon as you can.
I'd say it could probably be more fun to have a 3 bladesinger 3 echo knight because then you have all the base mechanics from both classes and you have your character complete.
When i played this I started as a fighter, got wizard to 6 and then got 2 more of fighter for echo knight, but i don't think you lose to much doing it any other way. Both the first and the second levels of fighter are worth it for a bladesinger, and getting the echo is awesome, so up won't fall too behind committing early on.
I would do Bladesinger 13/Eldritch Knight 7. This will give you War Magic, so you can essentially Extra Attack with Booming/Green-Flame Blade, as well as 7th level Wizard spells.

A bit late but here we go.
