The Amulet of the Veil is a stunning, teardrop-shaped pendant of faceted violet crystal that glows with shifting hues of indigo and blue. Suspended on a braided chain of shadow silk, it is cradled in an ornate frame of antique gold filigree that coils like roots or runes around the gem. Within its core, shapes appear to move—veils parting, eyes watching, stars collapsing. When worn, the amulet draws light inward, casting no reflection and seeming to deepen the shadows around it. Whispers in forgotten languages drift faintly from it when held in darkness, as if the amulet remembers.
Properties
• Anchor of Eternity: The amulet serves as a key and lock to the extra-dimensional prison of Zar’Zirath, the Spider God of Endless Threads. If destroyed or removed from its bearer during a celestial conjunction, the prison may weaken or even break. Only those bearing the amulet can safely approach the altar-portal of Auruanna or navigate the Temporal Tangle.
• Seal of the Threaded Gate: When brought before the Altar of Auruanna, the amulet activates the Gate of Resonant Return, a divine mechanism allowing one full party to pass through time or between planes. This can only be done once per campaign phase, and the amulet is temporarily inert afterward until a celestial event realigns its threads.
• Veilbreaker’s Edge (1/long rest): When confronting a creature of immense cosmic power (CR 20+ or aligned with the Void), the bearer can invoke the amulet as a reaction to nullify one incoming spell or supernatural effect (as counterspell cast at 9th level). If the attack was from the Void Dragon, the amulet also casts dispel evil and good on the bearer immediately afterward.
• Threads of Memory: The amulet remembers. A creature attuned to it receives fragmented visions from its past bearers—prophecies, hidden truths, or strategic insights. Once per long rest, the DM may grant the bearer advantage on any one Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma check, explaining it through a memory or vision.
Notes
The Amulet of the Veil is one of three divine relics made at the end of the First War of Threads by the goddess Auruanna. It is both a key, a weapon, and a bridge—a reality-threading tool too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands. Its true nature is not revealed by divination magic unless cast by a greater deity or under a rare conjunction of stars.
Rumors suggest that if the amulet is ever shattered, the final lock upon Zar’Zirath's cage will fail—and the ancient spider god will awaken beneath the Sunder Mountains.
To attune to the Amulet of the Veil, a creature must undertake a focused ritual that can only be completed under precise conditions:
-
The ritual must take place in total silence, in complete darkness, and within 20 feet of a shrine, altar, or image of the goddess Auruanna, or atop ground that has been sanctified by time or divine memory. A moonless night or shadow-drenched cavern is ideal.
-
The attuning creature must meditate for 1 uninterrupted hour, holding the amulet between their hands or suspended against their chest. During this period, they must speak no words and take no other actions.
-
Throughout the meditation, the bearer will begin to see fleeting visions—whispers of the past, glimmers of forgotten futures, and fragments of the imprisoned spider god’s dreams. If the creature flinches or breaks the ritual in fear or confusion, attunement fails and cannot be attempted again until after a long rest.
-
If the creature attempting attunement has been touched by planar travel, witnessed divine magic firsthand, or experienced time displacement, the amulet responds more swiftly, vibrating softly as it synchronizes with the bearer’s soul.
Once attuned:
-
The amulet merges faintly with the bearer’s aura, shifting its glow to mirror their emotional state.
-
The bearer instinctively understands that the amulet is more than a tool—it is a key, a binding, and a fate-threaded relic tied to the imprisonment of Zar’Zirath and the divine architecture of time itself.
If attunement is successful, the bearer cannot be compelled to relinquish the amulet by magical means (e.g., Command, Geas, or Suggestion) unless cast by a greater deity.
Notes: spellcaster or creature connected to Auruanna, the Void, or divine relics. To attune to the Amulet of the Veil, you must spend 1 hour in silent meditation while holding it in total darkness. During this time, you experience flickering visions of forgotten futures and divine imprisonment. The attunement completes only if you remain still and silent for the entire duration.
