A short wooden haft, constructed from Soarwood taken from Eberron's island-continent of Aerenal. It is fitted with a seat, and handles that fold out from the shaft. Skystaffs were introduced early in the Last War. They predates the airship, but only by a century. Towards the end of the war and after it they are constructed by the Shipyards of House Lyrandar originally from offcuts of Soarwood, although now they are constructed as a specialist item.
A Skystaff when deployed can be mounted like a bicycle and the user stands astride it and take a magic action to make it hover beneath you, at which time it can be ridden in the air. It has a Fly Speed of 50 feet. The skystaff stops hovering when you land or when you’re no longer riding it.
They require Dexterity checks for tight maneuvers or sustained balance at full speed, unless the rider has proficiency in air vehicles—so anyone CAN use one, but it requires some training to actually use one effectively. As the rider needs to maintain control of the Skystaff they only have one hand free at any time while maneuvering.
As a Magic action, you can send the Skystaff to travel alone to a destination within 1 mile of you if you name the location and are familiar with it. The Skystaff comes back to you when you take a Magic action and use a command word if the Skystaff is still within 1 mile of you
Notes: Set: Innate Speed (Flying)
