An arming sword (or knight sword) is a short, double edged sword with just enough handle space to wield it comfortably and firmly in one hand, usually used in conjunction with an off-hand shield or dagger for parrying attacks.
The cross-guard is usually cruciform, although some designs deign to opt for shapes that are more symbolic of their origin. The city of Neverwinter in the Forgotten Realms setting is known for having crescent shaped cross guards on many of their blades. Many arming swords have heavier, spiked pommels, to allow for non-lethal finishing attacks.
Knightly Guard. While you have a shield or a dagger in your other hand while wielding this weapon, you can use your reaction to parry an attack, giving you a +2 bonus to your AC against the triggering attack only.
Pommel Strike. When you attack with this weapon, you can choose to deal bludgeoning damage instead, by striking with the pommel. This damage is non-lethal, and if you critically hit an enemy with this attack, that enemy is stunned until the start of your next turn.
Proficiency with a Scimitar allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Nick. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
Notes: Finesse, Light, Nick
