Weapon (glaive, greatsword, longsword, rapier, scimitar, or shortsword), very rare (requires attunement)

A bearded battleaxe, with a cloudy naturally-faceted stone set into the handle where it joins the metal of the axe head.  The axe is enchanted, empowered with the both fire and ice.

When you use a bonus action to say the command word "Reo", you charge the blade of the axe with cold energy. When you hit with an attack roll using this mode, the target takes an extra 1d6 Cold damage. In addition, while you hold the weapon, you have Resistance to Fire damage.  This freezing energy lasts until you use a bonus action to speak the "Reo" command to end the effect, or another command to change effects.

  • While using cold energy, you can expend a charge of the axe to cast Armor of Agathys at 4th level.
  • You can also expend 2 charges to cast Wall of Ice

You can use a bonus action to speak "Adhaint", this axe's command word to charge the blade with fire energy, causing flames to erupt from the blade. These flames shed bright light in a 40-foot radius and dim light for an additional 40 feet. While the axe is ablaze, it deals an extra 1d6 fire damage to any target it hits. In addition, while you hold the weapon, you have Resistance to Cold damage. The flames last until you use a bonus action to speak the "Adhaint" command word again, or another command to change effects.

  • While using fire energy, you can expend a charge of the axe to cast Fire Shield
  • You can also expend 2 charges to cast Wall of Fire at 6th level

You can expend a charge to speak "Gaile", which charges the axe with both fire and cold energy, allowing you to cast Fog Cloud up to 4th level. You can also expend a charge to cast Gaseous Form with the axe in this state.  Be warned, though, that the fire and cold energies counter each other, so the axe doesn't offer any additional elemental damage or resistances in this state.

The axe regains 1d4+2 charges at dawn.

Proficiency with a Battleaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
