Whenever the weapon strikes an enemy for the first time it takes 2d6 additional necrotic damage, this damage upgrades in a milestone fashion from 2d6 to 2d10 to 2d12 as progression and challenges are met. This is up to the DM. It deals either slashing or piercing due to the teeth that line the length of the blade. As a bonus action the wielder can whip away the blood and the enemy can receive the bonus necrotic damage again.
Cursed. If the sword is picked up it will "bind" to the wielder meaning that if the wielder tries to drop it or put it away it will dig small sharp teeth that emerge from the hilt dealing 1d4 necrotic damage to the wielder. The blades additional rules are explained below:
- It can be removed forcefully with a strength check DC 22. If they fail it digs its teeth deeper into the skin dealing 1d12 piercing damage and the DC increases by 2 (This will repeat until the DC reaches 30 upon hitting this, it will deal 28 (4d20) necrotic damage and rip off their hand). If they succeed the blade is successfully torn from their skin and they take 1d8 necrotic damage. If a paladin or cleric uses dispel curse, they must make a religion check DC 22. If they fail the curse isn't removed and if they succeed the sword is cleansed and becomes a basic short sword again.
- If the user finishes a long or short rest without having attacked or killed anything that can bleed after a previous short or long rest the sword will bite into their flesh dealing 3d4 piercing damage to satiate its hunger. Additionally, if the wielder has a long rest they must succeed on a constitution save DC 18. If they fail the blade eats a chunk of their flesh dealing 2d10 necrotic damage.
Sentient. The blade will whisper to the wielder in common telepathically. It will mainly voice its hunger and thirst for blood and trying to corrupt the wielder.
