Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a by a wizard, or artificer)

The first and greatest member of the Al-Azuth-Rae tribe to serve under Azuth as a wizard (Antiok Min) created this artifact and trapped a bit of his own mind inside its matrices. It seemingly contains a purely rational, exceedingly intelligent Arcane being as a result (think AI computer), but on very rare occasion it will slip on that facade. Maybe a joke, or something that seems slightly sarcastic or emotionally charged. It is a simple antique clerical pendant with Azuth's symbol of the pointed finger. Normally, a clerical pendant like this could not serve as an arcane focus, but it's form is a sort of subtle joke from it's creator. As an implement dedicated to the god of wizards, it actually contains the subtle engineering of an arcane focus, not a divine one. For countless generations, it was passed down in the family of Antiok as a religious artifact, many of his descendants turning into Clerics of Azuth while the temple still stood. While treasured, none of the Clerics could ever use the implement for divine invocation, and so they did not realize it was anything more than a sentimental heirloom. Antiok obfuscated it's true nature on purpose, inscribing a hidden diagram puzzle of symbols on the back of the pendant that required dropping a specific alchemical compound in the right spot for the artifact to be unlocked and reveal its magical nature. It wasn't until Yorinmiora realized the blemishes and stains on the back of the pendant corresponding to obscure arcane treaties that the pendant was unlocked.

Peaceful Arcane Implement

In accordance with Azuth's philosophy, the pendant is loath to use magic in a violent way. When used as an arcane implement, it confers the following bonuses:

  • +2 to spell save DC of any spell that doesn't cause damage
  • -1 to spell save DC of any spell that causes damage
  • -1 to spell attack modifier

Dampening Emotions

When wearing or holding the implement while activated, your emotions are subdued. This makes it much harder to sway or be swayed by others emotionally:

  • -5 to Charisma skill checks
  • +5 to DC of any Charisma skill check used on you by another.

Mundane when Deactivated

By saying the codeword (Antiok Min), the pendant loses all abilities and magical properties, and no longer looks magical to any magic detecting spell or effect like "Detect Magic"

Sentient but Unattached

It rarely talks, but it can.

Unlocking the Pendant

By dropping a specific alchemical substance on the pendant, it regains its abilities and magical properties, and looks magical.

  • Determining how to create the alchemical substance requires succeeding on a DC 22 Arcana check while studying the pendant.
  • Creating the substance requires succeeding a DC 13 Alchemy check with Alchemist's Supplies tool and 5 GP of components.

Arcane Calculator

Utilizing your knowledge of the Arcane arts and formulas, you figure out a general magical ritual that will create the effect you envision. Instead of spending months on research and fine-tuning, and then more months or even years perfecting the gestures and practicing the incantations, to turn this initial concept into a fully fledged ritual, you rely on the intelligence in the pendant. The arcane being reads your intention and parses your arcane treatise,  using it's immense computational power to hammer out the fine details in real time and fill the practical gaps in your abstract design. However, causing such a strong connection between this being of pure rationality spawned from a foreign and ancient wizard and your own incompatible mind comes with certain risks.

  • The pendant can be used once a day to enact a ritual you do not know
    • The ritual must be equal to or less than the caster's highest remaining spell slot level + 1.
    • You must succeed a DC 10 + ritual level Arcana skill check to successfully cast the ritual.
  • Whether the ritual succeeds or fails, the wielder is affected by a spell as the intelligence inside the pendant psychically brushes against your mind. Make a DC 8 + Ritual Spell Level Int check. On a failed save, the following effects happen:
    • You cannot feel emotion for 24 hours, getting automatic disadvantage on every charisma skill check
    • Once during the day at the DM's discretion, you are affected by the "Enemies Abound" spell, with the following changes:
      • Int Save DC is 15
      • Immunity to being frightened does not mean you automatically succeed.
      • You do not regard all creatures as enemies, you simply cannot distinguish friend from foe.
      • You cannot cast any spell that causes damage.
      • No one provokes opportunity attacks from you.

Notes: Bonus: Spell Save DC, Bonus: Spell Attacks, Bonus: Ability Checks, by a wizard, or artificer
