Artifact Description
The journal is partially fossilized, its cover cracked like old marble. An owl’s feather is pressed into the stone, preserved mid-flutter. The script inside is precise, measured, but something in the spacing, the occasional scratched-out phrase, betrays that this is in fact a hand-written journal. Most of it does not seem readable anymore
An Early Entry
“The persuasion of flesh and blood – the desire it incites – is something to be studied. I was perfectly content with the writings of starlight in the dark abyss. But I will do as my Lord Father commands. Somebody needs to be there when he is satiated. Someone who knows who to send when the crops need planting, the mines need digging, and the stone needs building. I know what to do.”
Later Entry
“I know what to do. And yet I cannot shake the thought that I’ve sacrificed enough. This world truly has taught me new sensations. But truly, I sense the fires of the nine hells brooding in my stomach. My eyes are heavy. My muscles are sore. And the sticky blood of so many run like tears over my body. I am tired, I suppose. And I grieve in sorrow and wrath. He asked so much of me and I never declined. I’ll leave my heart here, then. May it be burned and buried. May it burrow through the mountain so I can be calm for the rest of eternity on this god-forsaken plane.”
