Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a Wizard, Sorcerer, or Bard)

This golden amulet bears a central slot that has the space for a single precious gemstone.  When inserted, the gemstone remains suspended within the center of the concentric rings of metal and glows faintly.
The gemstone must be worth at least 500gp in order for the amulet to function.  When the proper gemstone is inserted the amulet can be used in the following ways:

1.  As a Reaction, you can use this amulet to absorb all damage from any one attack intended for the wearer.  At which point, the gemstone crumbles into dust, negating all damage dealt and leaving the wearer unharmed.
**The wearer must declare they are going to use this reaction before damage has been rolled, although it may be declared after determining if the attack hit or missed.

2.  As a Bonus Action, you can activate the amulet and subtract 1d12 damage from all attacks intended for the wearer.  When the amulet is used in this way, the wearer will still receive a minimum of 1 damage from each attack that has been reduced.  After 1 minute, this effect ends and cannot be used again until the next Dawn.

If the gemstone has broken and must be replaced, it takes at least 1 hour (short rest) to do so as you must attune the gem to the amulet it is being used within.
