Weapon (longbow), artifact (requires attunement by a requires attunement by a Tiefling)
  • Arrow of Darkness: The bow has a black string and requires no arrows. Instead the user should draw the string back and an arrow engulfed in dark energy materialises. Rather than piercing, the bow deals either piercing or necrotic damage (damage type decided upon hit). If the target or the arrow is illuminated by the spell light, the condition ends.
  • +2 Longbow: You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

  • Umbral Precision: When you attack a creature in dim light or darkness, you deal an additional 2d6 necrotic damage. If the creature is surprised or hasn’t acted yet in combat, this damage increases to 2d10 necrotic damage.

  • Abyssal Binding Shot: Once per long rest, as an action, you can fire a spectral arrow infused with infernal chains at a creature within 150 feet. Make a ranged attack roll. On a hit, the target takes the normal attack damage plus 4d8 force damage and must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained by glowing, abyssal chains for 1 minute. A restrained creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success. On a miss, the target takes half the force damage and isn’t restrained.

  • Crescent Eclipse: Once per long rest, as an action, you can summon a 30-foot radius sphere of magical darkness centred on a point within 120 feet. You and up to three creatures you designate within 30 feet of you can see through this darkness as if it were bright light. The darkness lasts for 10 minutes or until you dismiss it as a bonus action. Creatures within the darkness when it appears must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the darkness ends.

Lore:

Forged in the searing crucibles of the Plane of Ash with the blessing of a malevolent god from the Nine Hells, the Abyssal Bow was crafted for an ambitious abyssal Tiefling artificer seeking to crush rival Tiefling factions under their dominion. Infused with infernal power, its dark, ash-flecked wood hums with malevolent energy, and its string, spun from the sinews of a defeated fiend, never frays. The bow’s arrows, when loosed, scream with the wails of the damned, striking fear into enemies.

Forged in abyss during the blood war in the name of Graz'zt, this bow was made by a tool smith to assist in a Tiefling faction and claimed thousands of live. Lost to time after its bearer fell in a cataclysmic battle, the bow’s legend endures in whispered tales among opposing and allied Tiefling clans, warning of its corrupting allure and unmatched destructive might. It's location isn't known, but some tales say it has been taken and hidden deep in a crypt while others suggest its been given to someone for safe keeping until it finds someone worthy.

Personality:

The bow is so powerful it can communicate with the Tiefling it is attuned by. It does this telepathically and cannot speak out loud. It has the following traits:

  • It yearns for destruction and souls. Given the chance it will always try and persuade its wielder to take a violent approach to problems rather than trying to settle things with words.
  • It feeds off the blood gorged from its arrows' wounds and tries to take over its wielder if it hasn't been "fed" in at least two days.
  • It doesn't understand why scissors beats paper, paper beats rock and rock beats scissors.

Proficiency with a Longbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
