Wondrous Item, uncommon

This elegant strand of glassy violet and obsidian beads hums faintly with quiet energy. Suspended at its center is a silver medallion engraved with an image of a group seated around a table in conversation—unaware of the shadowed figure lurking just behind them, listening intently from the darkness.

As an action, the last person to wear the medallion can activate it from anywhere, causing the medallion to silently pulse and begin recording sound.

For 1 minute, the medallion captures all sound within a 30-foot radius, including whispered speech, quiet movement, or other subtle noises, regardless of intervening barriers—so long as the sounds are not magically silenced. At the end of the duration, the medallion relays everything it heard directly and clearly into the mind of the most recent wearer, no matter the distance.

Once expended, the beads retain their appearance but lose all magical properties. Though no longer enchanted, these necklaces are often kept as keepsakes, reminders of the grand parades, arcane carnivals, or festival spectacles where they were earned, caught, or awarded. A nonmagical set of expended Beads of Quiet Applause is typically worth around 5 silver pieces.
