Wondrous Item, uncommon

This elegant string of soft pearl and muted lilac beads gives off a faint, perfumed calm. At its center hangs a silver medallion depicting two individuals in conversation—one gesturing eloquently while the other stands awkwardly, their mouth slightly open as if unsure whether to speak.

As a reaction or bonus action, you can activate these beads when a creature within 30 feet attempts to speak over you, interrupt, or interject during your speech. For the next 6 seconds (1 round), that creature becomes overwhelmed by a sudden and inexplicable sense of social discomfort or self-consciousness, and does not interrupt you. There is no saving throw—the effect stems more from an arcane manipulation of etiquette than direct magical coercion.

This effect does not prevent the target from taking other actions, casting spells, or engaging in combat, but it does compel them to fall silent and allow you to finish your statement, pitch, plan, or perfectly timed monologue.

Once expended, the beads retain their appearance but lose all magical properties. Though no longer enchanted, these necklaces are often kept as keepsakes, reminders of the grand parades, arcane carnivals, or festival spectacles where they were earned, caught, or awarded. A nonmagical set of expended Beads of Polite Silence is typically worth around 5 silver pieces.
