Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by a spell caster)
This thick leather necklace holds a heavy iron amulet, etched with old Goliath runes and set with a faintly glowing obsidian gem. Within the gem is trapped the spirit of Grumthar Stoneheart, a mighty Goliath barbarian who sought glorious strength even in death.
While attuned to this amulet, you can hear the booming voice of Grumthar in your mind. Though he is gruff and intense, he respects your magical prowess and constantly encourages you to grow physically stronger, giving you advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made as part of training or exercise during downtime.
If you attempt any Strength-based ability checks or saving throws, you gain +1 to the roll as Grumthar “coaches” you with words of encouragement like:
  • “Tighten your stance! You are strong—you just forgot!” and “Magic sharpens the mind. Strength sharpens the soul!”
Once per day, you may invoke Grumthar's Strength as a bonus action.
  • Your base Strength score becomes 20 until your next long rest. This does not stack with existing Strength scores above 20. Your body temporarily swells with muscle, your voice deepens, and veins pulse with ghostly Goliath energy. While this effect is active, you have advantage on Strength checks and saving throws, and your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage.
When you are grappled by a creature, roll a d20.
  • On a 16–20, Grumthar manifests a spectral Goliath fist that punches the grappling creature.
The effect: The creature takes 3d6 force damage. It must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC 16) or be forced to release you. The fist glows with ethereal runes and disappears after the strike.
You may only benefit from this effect once per long rest.
Grumthar has a distinct personality. He might mutter disapproval if you avoid physical challenges, but praise you loudly after performing feats of strength, even minor ones.
“You cracked a nut with your bare hand?! That’s the spirit!”
“Books build the mind, but rocks build the legacy.”
