Weapon (javelin), rare (requires attunement by a Ranger or Fighter)

The Assegai of the Steppe-Prince is a rare weapon that gives a +1 to attack and damage rolls. The assegai has a sleek iron head with a leaf-blade design and a short, dark wood shaft wrapped in braided leather cords. Faint tribal runes etched along the blade’s central ridge shimmer slightly in moonlight or wind. When thrown, it whistles—a keening sound reminiscent of a hawk’s cry.

If you then choose to make a melee attack against the same target before the end of your turn, that melee attack has advantage.

Nomadic Instincts. This ability grants the wielder a “sixth sense” as part of being a seasoned veteran hunter or warrior of the steppe. you gain +2 to initiative rolls, and you can’t be surprised while you’re conscious. The weapon grants a faint hum or vibration just before combat breaks out — like the wind whispering that danger is lurking around the corner.

Fun fact. The use of various types of the assegai was widespread all over Africa and it was the most common weapon used before the introduction of firearms. The Zulu, Xhosa, and other Nguni tribes of South Africa were renowned for their use of the assegai.
