Staff, rare (requires attunement by a by Wizard, Warlock, or Sorcerer)

Anchored staves are made of sturdier woods, such as Hickory, Oak, or Blackwood. the length of the wood is covered in carvings representing the flow of the weave from source to caster, then back to source. The top always holds some cut and polished gemstone set into electrum, while the tip is capped with a long platinum spike , similar to an alpenstock. Unattuned, the Anchored Staff is the size of a quarterstaff. Once attuned, the staff is always perfectly sized for the attuned user. the staff seems to hum with energy when embedded within any surface for more than a few moments, just enough to be noticed.

Anchored Staves allow an attuned user expanded access to the weave, by entering a solid surface and passing into the flow of energy within the world. unless the area is completely bereft of magic, such as when in the middle of a anti-magic field or the site of a cataclysmic magical event, the magic can reach deep into the earth to find a wellspring of the weave's energy.

whether attuned or not, an Anchored Staff can be used as an Immovable Rod by driving the pointed end into any solid surface. unlike a regular Immovable Rod, The staff cannot be suspended midair, but must maintain contact with a solid surface, such as the ground, wall or ceiling, through the platinum spike. If the relevant surface is damaged enough that there is no longer a point of contact with the spike, this effect ends. (GM discretion should be used to determine what technically counts a a severed connection, and what merely constitutes a  smaller surface. a stone wall, for example, may break into chunks large enough that the staff maintains contact, albeit with only the section it's actually touching. on the other hand, if the wall i blown into small enough pieces or deliberately attacked in a way to sunder the connection point, the effect should be ended. Common sense should apply.)

Once attuned, an Anchored Staff gains the following abilities:

  • The attuned user becomes immune to difficult terrain caused by rocky or muddy environments or magical effects as long as they hold the staff in at least one hand.
  • The staff acts a a spellcasting focus for the purpose of casting spells, and can substitute for any consumed component up to 1,000 GP in value.
  • The Immovable Rod feature can be triggered as a bonus action instead of an action.
  • While the Immovable Rod feature is active, the attuned is considered to be holding the rod for the purposes of casting spells as long as they remain within 30 feet of the Anchored Staff, regardless of what is in their hands. This includes somatic casting requirements
  • While the Immovable Rod feature is active, the attuned can cast spells using the staff as the origin point for the spell. as long as they are within 30 feet of the Anchored Staff. This feature can be used a number of times per day equal to the character's total level(minimum 3). At 20th level, the limit is removed.
