Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement by a creature missing a hand or an arm)

Forged by an unknown Ran artificer and infused with arcane energy, this mechanical prosthetic is a marvel of magic and engineering. It seamlessly bonds with its wearer, functioning as a fully articulated arm, far stronger and more versatile than flesh and bone. With a flick of the wrist and the right command from the mind, this arm can perform feats that border on the impossible to those without the Citizen of Ran background, and so only those with proper training or heritage can unlock it's full abilities.

While attached, the prosthetic provides these benefits:

  • The prosthetic is a fully capable part of your body, even working as a limb in antimagic fields if you have proficiency in computers.
  • You can take an action to remove the prosthetic, and it removes itself if your attunement to it ends. It can't be removed against your will.
  • The passive and active effects work in antimagic if you have the Citizen Ran background, Ran Race species, or proficiency in Computers.

Integrated Features & Passive Effects

  • Enhanced Strength: The prosthetic grants the user a +3 bonus to Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
  • Reinforced Grip: The prosthetic is a magical +3 simple melee weapon part of your unarmed strikes. It deals 2d6 force damage on a hit and has the finesse property. Attacks made by the weapon count as unarmed strikes for the purposes of class features, feats and other magic items. Only attacks with the missing hand or arm deal the 2d6 force damage or gain the magical benefit.
  • Mana Sensory Node (Requires Citizen of Ran background, Ran Race, or Computer Proficiency): Embedded in the wrist is a miniature camera-like device, allowing the user to cast the Arcane Eye spell at will with no components.
  • Targeting Module (Requires Citizen of Ran background, Ran Race, or Computer Proficiency): Synchronizing with the brain using nanomachines, your unarmed strikes score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.

Active Abilities and Effects

Each active ability and effect requires an additional quest to upgrade the arm before they can be used, otherwise they are dormant or unavailable to the user.

  • Vortex Capture (6 Charges, Regains 1d6 per Long Rest): As an action, you can launch the hand up to 60 feet toward a target you can see or touch a target you can see. The target must make a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence modifier). On a failure the target is grappled (Escape DC = your spell save DC) and immediately teleported to location of your choosing as if by Vortex Warp at 9th level. On a success the target dodges the grab, and the hand returns to you instantly if it was launched.
  • Shock Knuckle (3 Charges, Regains 1d3 per Long Rest): As a bonus action, you can supercharge the arm with electricity. The next unarmed strike you hit with before the end of your turn deals an extra (proficiency modifier)d6 lightning damage and forces the target to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence modifier). On a failure, the target is stunned until the end of their next turn.
  • Rocket Fist: As a ranged weapon attack, you can launch your hand as a rocket-powered projectile up to 120 feet using your spell attack bonus and dealing (proficiency modifier)d8 force damage on a hit.  When launched, the prosthetic detaches and flies at the target of the attack, then immediately returns to you and reattaches. This function is unavailable to creatures without spellcasting.
  • Guided Strike: When you fire the Rocket Fist, you can choose to guide it mid-flight as a bonus action, which you take immediately after making the Rocket Fist attack roll. This allows you to change its trajectory once, curving around obstacles or cover. Alternatively, you can automatically turn a miss into a hit if the original attack roll was within 5 of the target’s AC.
