Weapon (crossbow, light), artifact

Lore

Forged in the secret workshops of a long-forgotten artificer guild, the Aetherbolt Repeater blends arcane engineering with divine craftsmanship. Its stock is reinforced with mithral gears, its limbs are wound with dragon sinew, and its firing mechanism is powered by an eternal crystal capacitor. This weapon does not simply shoot bolts—it channels the wielder’s intellect into deadly precision, bending the boundaries of invention and magic.

Base Properties

  • Counts as a +3 ranged weapon.

  • When you attack with this crossbow, you may use your Intelligence modifier instead of Dexterity for attack and damage rolls.

  • Ignores the loading and ammunition properties; it generates its own bolts made of condensed arcane energy.

Features

  1. Arcane Repeater

    • When you take the Attack action and fire the crossbow, you can make one additional attack as part of the same action.

  2. Elemental Cartridge (Recharge 1d4 rounds)

    • As a bonus action, you may infuse the crossbow’s capacitor with elemental energy. Choose fire, lightning, cold, or acid. For the next minute, all bolts fired deal an extra 2d8 damage of the chosen type.

  3. Overclocked Burst (3/day)

    • You may unleash a rapid flurry of arcane bolts. As an action, you fire a 30-ft line, 5 ft wide, of pure magical force. All creatures in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency + Intelligence modifier) or take 6d10 force damage, half on success.

  4. Integrated Infusion Matrix

    • You can store up to 2 artificer infusions within the Aetherbolt Repeater at once. They do not count against your maximum infused items, and you can switch between stored infusions as a bonus action.

Proficiency with a Light Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
