Wondrous Item, artifact

A set of magical cards with reality-altering properties.

Every card appears blank aside from the black and red backs of the cards; it is only when a card is pulled from the deck that the card that was drawn becomes both visible and loses its invulnerability. Only one card can be drawn at a time, and it can only be drawn by a willing creature. If a card has been drawn, another one cannot be pulled until 1 minute has passed. Drawn cards can’t be put back into the deck by any means. The same card cannot be drawn twice unless all cards have been destroyed and thus reset. If the deck is destroyed, it will reappear in 1000 years.

Cards can be normal, reverse, or strange. When a card is drawn, roll 1d4. 1-2 means a reverse card has been drawn, and 3-4 means a normal card has been drawn. Roll 1d100 if at least one card has been drawn before. If the number is less than or equal to the number of cards previously drawn since the deck's formation/latest reformation, the card is a strange card instead of normal or reverse. If there are no strange cards left, do not roll 1d100. To determine which normal or reverse card has been drawn, roll 1d20 plus 1d4 - 1. If the number is 23, roll again. If the card drawn was instead a strange card, roll 1d10. Normal and reverse cards both have variants; roll 1d4 when a card with an available variant is selected. 1-2 means the original card is drawn, and 3-4 means the variant is drawn. If there are only strange cards left, roll 1d10 initially instead. If the roll for which card to be drawn lands on a card that has already been drawn at any time, reroll.

Each card can be destroyed in some way specific to it. Every normal card can be destroyed easily. This comes with the caveat that every reverse card has a much more difficult method of destruction. All strange cards destroy themselves once all cards have all been drawn and each normal and reverse card has been destroyed. A card, upon destruction, immediately ends and reverses the effects of the card.
