Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement by a Spend an hour with the sword)

This katana contains the dark entity Shūen an abyssal demon bent on ending all life. It was sealed in the Akumonji by the cleric Isshin Himura.

When attuned the Akumonji it acts as a +1 Longsword.

Cursed Properties

Hungry Seal: Whenever you kill a creature while attuned to the Akumonji, roll a d20. On a 1–5, the seal weakens — the DM chooses a sign (whispers, glowing runes, faint cracks in the scabbard). After 13 kills, the seal breaks and the entity inside is released.

Whispers of Blood: While attuned, you sometimes hear Akumonji’s voice. Once per day, the DM can force you to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 14) or be compelled to draw the blade.

Temptation

If you draw Akumonji willingly:

  • The blade becomes a +3 longsword.
  • It deals an extra 2d6 necrotic damage on hit.
  • Critical hits force the target to make a DC 16 Con save or drop to 0 HP.
  • Every kill in this state counts double toward weakening the seal.

Bound Burden

  • If you go 7 days without drawing Akumonji, you take 1d8 psychic damage at dawn as the entity gnaws at you.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
