This beautifully crafted golden amulet is adorned with a carved depiction of a sphinx embracing a kneeling figure. It radiates protective magic and ancient emotional resonance. While many exist as copies, only one true artifact is known to possess the full extent of its intended power.
Signet of the Guardian (Rare and above)
While wearing this amulet, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
Guardian’s Devotion (Very Rare and above — Requires Attunement)
You may choose one creature to devote yourself to. While this devotion is active:
-
You lose the +1 AC bonus from this amulet.
-
The creature you are devoted to gains +2 AC.
-
Half of all damage that creature takes is redirected to you, bypassing all of your resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities.
-
You are immune to the charmed condition, and have advantage on saving throws against being frightened, as long as you can see or hear the creature you're devoted to.
You may change your devotion during a long rest.
Ultimate Sacrifice (Legendary — Requires Attunement)
When the creature you are devoted to dies, you may choose to sacrifice yourself to bring them back.
-
The creature is instantly resurrected at full hit points, with their body fully restored, even if it was destroyed.
-
Your body is destroyed and turns into sand.
-
You cannot be resurrected by any means — except by the artifact version of this amulet, if it is in your possession at the time of death.
This ability can only be used once, and only while you are alive.
True Amulet of the Sphinx: The Forever Guard
Wondrous Item (Artifact, Unique — Requires Attunement)
This is the original version of the Amulet of the Sphinx. Unlike all others, this artifact has the power to retain the soul of a creature who used Ultimate Sacrifice while attuned to it.
If a creature the former wearer was devoted to attunes to the amulet:
-
The sacrificed soul may be summoned at will, or is automatically summoned when the attuned creature is reduced to 0 hit points.
-
If the creature the guardian is devoted to dies, the amulet becomes empty, and the guardian perishes permanently.
-
The guardian takes a sand-formed version of its original shape. It cannot speak, but understands all languages it knew in life.
While in this form:
-
The guardian has resistance to all nonmagical damage.
-
It can cast Enlarge on itself once per summon (no concentration required).
-
Guardian’s Devotion remains active but cannot be reassigned to another target.
-
Ultimate Sacrifice cannot be used again.
-
The guardian cannot be healed by any means.
-
If reduced to 0 hit points, the guardian dies permanently and can only be restored with a wish spell.
-
While stored inside the amulet, the guardian regains hit points equal to its Hit Dice for every 2 hour spent within.
Notes: Very Rare and above — Requires Attunement. You may choose one creature to devote yourself to.
