Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement by a by a spellcaster)

This mask is carved from a single piece of fractured obsidian that seems to drink the light around it. It is unnaturally cold to the touch, and looking through its empty eye sockets reveals a world stripped of its magical veneer, showing only the raw, chaotic potential beneath.

While wearing this mask, you gain the following benefits:

Void Sight. You can see invisible creatures and objects, as well as visual illusions, for what they are within 60 feet of you. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can see the faint aura of magic around any visible creature or object within 60 feet of you that bears magic, and you learn its school of magic, if any.

Power of Unmaking. The mask has 5 charges and regains 1d4+1 expended charges daily at dawn. You can expend charges to activate the following properties:

  • Unravel Magic. When you see a creature casting a spell or activating a magical effect within 60 feet of you, you can use your reaction to expend 1 charge and force the creature to make a DC 17 saving throw using its spellcasting ability modifier. On a failed save, the spell or effect fails and is wasted, its magical energy torn apart before it can coalesce.

  • Entropic Spell. When you cast a spell that forces one or more creatures to make a saving throw, you can expend 2 charges to weave threads of pure entropy into the casting. Creatures affected by the spell have disadvantage on their initial saving throw against it.

Curse. The mask is a relic of pure entropy, and its power is anathema to the structured magic of the multiverse. Each time you use one of the mask's charged properties, the whispers of the void grow louder. After expending the last charge, you must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or gain a random form of long-term madness (see the Dungeon Master's Guide) as the mask's chaotic influence overwhelms you.
