A dark-shaded purple crystalline Orb with black swirls and a diameter of three inches (size of a baseball).
Gets rid of Sunlight Sensitivity for Kobolds, disregard ALL Disadvantage on attack rolls and WIS (perception) checks when you or Target is in direct Sunlight or Radiant light when this item is actively in your Inventory or on your person.
Grants immunity to Sunlight & Radiant light for 90 days
Only works for Kobold (Species).
You can find these Orbs: On certain kobold subspecies and their corpses (for kobold subspecies are important figures within a tribe and would never be found on a common kobold), as well as the black market of any kingdom, and certain towns frequented by adventurers or mercenaries. Can also be found extremely rarely on bandits or in bandit hideouts (implying they killed a subspecies kobold at some time).
Creator Note/Tip: If DM allows it and puts this item in the black market or town market discuss the price. If DM makes the price too high try using your action to barter, charm, or any way to convince the Target to decrease the price. If they don't budge the gold cause you're broke...then have fun being stuck with Sunlight Sensitivity, buddy :')
Stages of the Orb:
- Crystalline White Orb of Light Domination - It has not been attuned to by a Sorcerer Class yet. (Rare but cheaper since most of the time they are attuned already and effects last for a long time)
- Brilliant White - Orb is actively absorbing the direct sunlight's solar energy and converting it's light properties into arcane energy, ready to begin attuning by Sorcerer Class
- Purple - An attuned ready-to-use Orb of Light Domination
When the purple orb's color fades to white and starts to shine brilliantly it means that that it needs to be attuned by a Sorcerer once more and lasts every 90 Days (3 months). You CANNOT charge up the Orb until it's fully depleted.
Item Lore:
"One day a young black dragon, a long time ago, expressed his disappointment and frustration to his scale sorcerer kobold about her, or rather her species as a whole, being so sensitive to sunlight that they never get anything done outside their caves. Like go hunting or bring back fresh supplies or...keep him company; he lamented that he keeps her tribe safe and they give him gold but he wanted more than just riches, he wanted food, comfort, companionship, entertainment but they're always in their darn caves, she's the only one that ever visits! This saddened her immensely for she felt that she was a burden and not fulfilling her end of the bargain. Undeterred she took it as a test to prove her worth before her master, for her tribe's sake fearing that he may leave. The scale sorcerer spent decades performing trial and error to perfect her magical item; she became obsessed with her project. By then, she has completed her magnum opus!
A white crystalline Orb with a diameter of three inches. When she returned to the black dragon and presented it, cupped in the palm of her hands, to her master showing the fruits of her labor all bright eyed and smiles, he looked on in scrutiny and asked why what she has in her hands is so small; that this is what she has been working on for the past few years? Though it only felt like a few hours from his perspective...what is it? She exclaimed enthusiastically that it's an orb that absorbs sunlight converting its solar energy and channeling it's light properties into arcane energy which then twists it's aspect of light properties into the aspect of darkness then emits a feint purple hue glowing around a person warping their perception to trick the mind into thinking that bright lights, even blinding lights, is just normal light. For her kind who can see in the dark, seeing in the light should now be one-in-the-same now. It's like applying science and magic! She exclaimed that with this orb she should be able to cure her sunlight sensitivity impairment. The black dragon was befuddled from her show of intelligence, asking if it works.
She sheepishly said that it should, in theory, she hasn't stepped outside to see him in a long time and that she hasn't attuned it yet, she was just excited to show him; to be worthy of his presence and begged the black dragon not to abandon her tribe or her. The black dragon placed the scale sorcerer onto the palm of his hand exclaiming that she is his most loyal servant of her tribe and would never find her unworthy for she is the only one that dares to come outside, bearing the sun to see him. He'd never abandon his loyal servant and even apologized for back then. After they reconciled, he bellowed excitedly that they must test it at once. They left their territory, to fly to a mountain peak where the sun shined at its brightest. The scale sorcerer, squinting her eyes in discomfort for the sun's rays were beaming down on her; she got on her knees and concentrated all her magical energy onto the orb. Pondering her orb, as the hue shined brilliantly white and then changed into brilliant darkness overtime as the orb's color turned into a dark shade of purple with black swirls as she attuned it.
The black dragon expressed his delight in the orb for working properly and was simply enthralled by its shimmering hues. He was surprised that the attuning process only took thirty seconds but the scale sorcerer smiled exhaustively saying that she's been attuning the orb for a whole thirty minutes for it to work.(Dragon perception of time will never be understood!) He proudly called her his genius kobold! That in his thousands year of living he had never seen magic applied so structurally before. That she must have been a scholar in her previous reincarnation. On that, she agreed meekly embarrassed with all her master's praises. He demanded that she'd make more and teach other scale sorcerers the process and she agreed with great joy in her heart.
On that day, the black dragon would boast to his fellow dragons who ruled over their own kobold tribes that HIS scale sorcerer is the best kobold to have ever existed in thousands of years. A true genius for her species! Since he is her master, the credit also belongs to him. He would then introduce his scale sorcerer to the dragons and tell them to imprint every fiber of her mortal being into their minds for one day she would fade from time but her legacy will live on in us dragons and through us they'll make kobolds into even greater minions! The scale sorcerer then handed out copies of the orb she invented to any dragon the black dragon introduced her to and instructed, in a respectful manner, to have their own scale sorcerers examine, study, and create their own orbs per her instructions that she gave by word-of-mouth so that important figures in their own kobold tribe that the dragons rule over can venture out into the sunlight and handle tasks they give them. This was a boon to alleviate the dragon's disappointment and frustrations with the kobold's sun impairments within their own tribes.
The dragons impressed by the black dragon's little kobold's achievement asked for the name of this great item that was the size of a toothpick compared to their mighty statures. The scale sorcerer looked to her master expectingly and he replied boastfully and with great pride that it was named "The Orb of Light Domination", Kobolds who wield these orbs will never have to be oppressed by the shining sun or greater light again. Now the kobolds we rule will be able to do our bidding even in the day light! The dragon's clapped agreeing that it was a powerful name befitting a dragon's servant invention.. The black dragon laughed victoriously, smoke spewing from his nostrils as they stroke his ego The scale sorcerer was happy for her master to gain recognition for her creation. Proving that she was of great use to him and his reputation to his kind.
They later became best friends inseparable now that she could stand the sunlight. Surpassing the relationship of merely master and servant. When her time came to an end the black dragon suggested that he should eat her and absorb her soul so that they can always be together. The scale sorcerer agreed, never wanting to part ways with her former master into the afterlife. She was loyal in life and death. All she asked in the end is to not abandon her tribe and continue to protect them for as long as at least one member of her tribe remains. He promised on his honor to her. That is how the tale of the scale sorcerer, creator of the Orb of Light Domination ended...
To this day, the black dragon, now older and wiser lives on somewhere in the world acting as protector and ruler of her tribe in the company of his best friend...
Though she was regarded as JUST a mere scale sorcerer, one of many, he and his dragon companions will always remember her name just as they promised to imprint her legacy...Phoebe, a scale sorcerer who may or may not have been a Scholar in her previous life...because of her, kobolds can now walk into the sunlight never fearing their sunlight sensitivity impairment again."

Greetings, it is I the creator! If you like MY work-around getting rid of that pesky Sunlight Sensitivity and maybe even enjoyed the Lore, I'd appreciate it if you let me know!
I tried my best to stay as immersive as possible to kobolds in the relationship between a kobold tribe and dragons. Specifically the relationship between a Scale Sorcerer and their master. I'm aware that dragons can and may be a lot crueler to the kobolds they rule over, but not all dragons are one-in-the-same. The black dragon I wrote in particular, I left subtle hints that despite him being more considerate, he is STILL a dragon. I never implied that he was a "kind" dragon nor was he an "evil" dragon. And the relationship between the scale sorcerer wasn't a relationship built on friendship until the end, it was built on loyalty and fear of abandonment. If a kobold tribe gets abandoned by their dragon, if they have one, they are susceptible to HELL on earth! So the scale sorcerer's motivation was the terror of the possible future without her master, as the diplomat and representative of her tribe she bares a great responsibility as all scale sorcerers do when a dragon is involve, it was a matter of life or death.
I think I have a weird headcanon that scale sorcerer kobolds, specifically the one chosen to represent their tribe and build diplomatic relationships with a dragon totally has Stockholm Syndrome. I mean, in the presence of a dragon, they're always in a state of shock, awe, fear, terror, and unyielding loyalty...like...the signs are all there...they got a love/hate thing for dragons! And unpopular opinion: but any kobold player that is guns-ho for dragon slaying is literally going against their genetic coding especially if you're a scale sorcerer. You better have a good backstory or a peer-pressuring party to explain why your 3-foot booty is going against your literal living breathing ancestors. who can squish you with their pinkie toeNAIL and blow you away with a yawn. If you MUST face a dragon, you're character should at the very LEAST be frozen in fear for a solid 1-5 minutes having their life flash before their eyes before you attempt the sheer absurdity of what you plan to do with your next turn XD
Anywhoooo...I dunno why I ranted there...despite all this stuff I wrote. The baseline of this item is that...you can see in the day now...congratulations you are now like the rest of society. Except everybody still hates you because you're a darn dirty kobold (I find them to be cute though) maybe you'll find NPCs and players who think the same too...try not to die too fast in your DnD campaign will ya? Collecting these Orbs from y'all dead corpses is a hassle and bad for the kobold economy...I mean honestly, buying the Orb from the black market/town market? Why are we paying for OUR own property back??? You should just steal it. Yeah steal it! It's the morally right choice, you don't owe them NOTHING!!! *thumbs up*
Kobolds RULE!!!
