Weapon (crossbow, heavy), very rare (requires attunement)

This magical crossbow, designed for battles with multiple enemies, fires incandescent bolts that cause excruciating pain.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon. Additionally, each hit deals an extra 1d6 fire damage.

Triple Shot. Once per turn, when attacking with the crossbow, you can cause the fired bolt to multiply in the air, targeting three different creatures within the weapon's range. You must make separate attack and damage rolls for each bolt. The two copies of the bolt created by this effect disappear at the end of the turn in which they were fired.

Explosive Shot. The crossbow has 3 charges. When making an attack roll with it, you can expend 1 charge to cause the bolt to explode upon reaching the target (only once per turn). If it hits, the target suffers the normal effects of the attack. On a hit or miss, the bolt explodes, forcing the target and each creature within 10 feet of it to make a DC16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 fire damage on a failed save and half as much damage on a successful one. If the attack hits, the target makes this saving throw with disadvantage. Flammable objects not being worn or carried within the blast radius ignite. If you use this effect in conjunction with Triple Shot, only one of the bolts explodes, your choice. 1d3 expended charges are recovered at the next dawn.

Proficiency with a Heavy Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
