Wondrous item (cursed), attunement required
Issued by Mammon himself, Lord of the Third — patron of Greed and the vaults of Hell — the Amex Platinum of Perdition is both status symbol and soul-binding contract.
The card’s motto, engraved in Infernal script, reads:
“Membership lasts an eternity.”
The more it is used, the more opulent and hollow the bearer becomes.
Effects
Passive (While Attuned)
- While attuned, you can conjure 10 Soul Marks per dungeon from thin air.
- However, each conjured mark steals a fragment of your soul: take 3 point of max HP damage per 10 marks.
- If max HP reaches 0 from this effect, the user becomes a gold statue that whispers “Mine” forever.
However…
The Burden of Greed (Cursed Effect)
- Each time the card is used to create wealth or buy something unnecessary, roll a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw.
- On a failure, the card brands a faint sigil on the bearer’s skin, invisible to others.
- For every three failed saves, the bearer permanently loses 1 point of Wisdom, replaced by an unquenchable hunger for more.
- Any gold or item purchased with the conjured money becomes tainted — its owner feels intense paranoia that someone might take it from them.
- The card cannot be discarded voluntarily. Attempts to destroy it simply result in it reappearing in the bearer’s pocket or wallet with the message:
“We appreciate your continued business.”
Active Ability: “Credit Without Limit” (1/Day)
As an action, you may “swipe” the card in the air, invoking Mammon’s infernal ledger.
Choose one of the following effects:
- Buy Power: Instantly gain the effects of a Potion of Superior Healing or Potion of Heroism without having it.
- Buy Favor: Summon a Lemure or Imp that obeys one command for 1 minute before vanishing.
- Buy Escape: Teleport yourself up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see.
Cursed Compulsion
When holding significant wealth (100 sm or more), the bearer must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw each dawn or develop an overwhelming urge to hoard, betray, or “invest” at others’ expense.
Notes: Automatically attunes to the character holding the item. Cannot be removed., Cursed
