Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a By any creature of any alignment)

Appearance
A green, wooden mask carved with a perpetual mischievous grin. When held in daylight, it seems inert and lifeless. But under the light of night (moonlight, starlight, or magical darkness), its features animate and shimmer with trickster energy.

Lore
Forged by the trickster god Loki, this mask warps reality around its wearer, channeling unbridled chaos and primal magic. The mask craves mischief, laughter, and wild improvisation — yet it corrupts with excess, pushing its host toward reckless, cartoonish extremes.

Attunement Rules
The mask only functions at night (sunset to sunrise). In daylight, it cannot be donned or activated.
While worn, the mask fuses to the wearer’s face. It cannot be removed unless willingly doffed, or if a Remove Curse or Wish spell is cast.

Scaling Powers
The Mask grows with its wielder, amplifying their natural charisma and mayhem. Its powers scale with the wearer’s proficiency bonus.

Immediate Effects (while worn at night)

  • Chaotic Persona. Your Charisma score becomes 20 if it isn’t already higher. (Dm’s choice for additional CHA if base is 20+)
  • Cartoon Physics. You gain resistance to bludgeoning damage and immunity to falling damage (you bounce like rubber).
  • Reality Warping. You can pull absurd objects seemingly out of nowhere (oversized hammers, mallets, cream pies, etc.) that deals 1d4 damage of any type, once per turn as part of an attack.

Active Powers (Added by Proficiency Bonus Levels)

PB 2–3 (Low Level)

  • Mischief Step. As a bonus action, teleport up to 30 ft. leaving behind a puff of smoke, feathers, or confetti.
  • Gag Weapon. Conjure a comical weapon (club, mallet, banana peel) that deals 1d8 damage of any type (bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing).

PB 4–5 (Mid Level)

  • Mask’s Charisma. You can cast Charm Person or Mirror Image 3/day.
  • Rubber Flesh. You can use your reaction to reduce damage by 1d10 + your Constitution modifier once per short rest.

PB 6 (High Level)

  • Chaotic Warp (1/day). Cast Polymorph without material components. The target is forced into a bizarre, cartoonish form (giant chicken, anvil, bouncing ball).
  • Toonstorm (1/day). You erupt with explosive cartoony magic in a 20-ft radius. Enemies and Allies must make a DC 18 Dex save or take 6d8 force damage and be knocked prone in a whirlwind shower of slapstick props.

Curses & Drawbacks

  • Night-Bound. In daylight, the mask is inert. However, the attuned wearer takes 1d6 radiant damage per day until the mask is discarded and the attunement broken.
  • Chaotic Influence. The mask constantly urges the wearer toward reckless behavior. When wearing it, they must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom save once per hour or act on an impulsive, mischievous urge suggested by the DM.
  • Trickster’s Ego. Long-term use warps the personality of the host. Each week of attunement, the wearer must succeed on a DC 17 Charisma save or their alignment shifts one step toward chaotic.

Destroying the Mask
The Mask of Loki can only be destroyed under sunlight at the exact moment of an eclipse, when night and day overlap, by a Legendary weapon (i.e Thor's Hammer). Otherwise, it reforms wherever laughter and chaos linger.
