Armor (plate), rare (requires attunement by a Creature of Evil alignment)

This armor is a +2 suit of Mithril plate armor with a red sheen. It emits thin wisps of smoke at all times, like Smoldering Armor.  If attuned by an Evil creature, it grants the wearer immunity to fire damage while it is worn and also heats itself up as if the entire suit were subject to the spell Heat Metal, causing it to glow a dull reddish orange. This effect lasts until the wearer removes the armor.

While being worn, any creature in physical contact with the armor takes 2d8 fire damage.  At the beginning of each subsequent turn of contact, they take an additional 2d8 fire damage. The wearer can use a bonus action on each of their turns to cause this damage again as long as the target remains in contact with the armor.

If a creature is in contact with the armor and takes fire damage from it, the creature must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or break contact with armor if it can. If it doesn't break contact with the armor, it has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the start of its next turn.

If donned by a non-Evil creature, the armor allows itself to be donned without ill effect, but once it is on (it doesn't wait for attunement), it locks itself to the wearer as a cursed item, and functions the same as it does for an Evil wearer, except that it does not confer any damage immunity or resistance, and it cannot be removed unless targeted by a Remove Curse, Divine Intervention , or Wish spell, or the wearer dies, burned up inside the armor. This information is not revealed by an Identify spell or similar means of identifying magic items and it appears as a +2 suit of Smoldering Mithril plate armor.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
