The Arc Smelter was created generations ago by the great Artificer Runkkoss Scugbum of the House Scugbum. The Arc uses a very simple design of conductive rings that are twisted into a coil. The ends of the coil connect to a magic source of lightning this source powers the device melting any non-magical metal inside of it. Many variations of the smelter have been created over the years with the most popular being a set of conductive metal bands which connect magically and are able to expand in diameter allowing for larger objects to fit inside.
*Important Notes*
While this smelter is very handy to melt down metal objects one might find on adventures. This smelter can not smelt raw ore, since it is unable to remove impurities. When it is smelting an object it will suspend the melted metal in the air until it is powered down. The coil has a funnel at the base of the coil (or a seperate ring that attaches) to pour liquid metal effectively into a container.
1. To melt an object, it must first fit inside the rings/coil. A standard Arc Smelter can fit the full length of a short sword, and is about 12 inches wide (about the size of a bicep)
2. How quickly the item is melted depends on the size, and material of the item (length. thickness, material). For this the DM can use their own judgement or the equation below.
