This unassuming silver coin bears no markings or ornamentation and appears mundane at a glance. When held, an unnatural chill seeps into the bearer’s skin. The coin is bitterly cold to the touch and never seems to warm, no matter how long it is carried.
A creature versed in the divination arts can flip the coin to get an insight into the threads of fate. Upon landing, the coin offers a simple answer: heads signifies yes, while tails means no. The bearer instinctively knows, at the moment the coin is cast, whether the future can be meaningfully read or if fate remains obscured.
The coin cannot divine what the user knows nothing of. The clearer the bearer’s understanding of a situation, creature, or event, the more easily for the coin to reveal its answer. Questions concerning the bearer’s own fate are especially resonant and more easily interpreted by the coin’s magic. The percentage of success is determined by DM discretion.
Powerful entities, wards, or creatures attuned to destiny may notice the coin’s first intrusion upon their future. Once aware, such forces can cloud, distort, or wholly block further divination made against them.
