Armor (shield), artifact (requires attunement)

The Aegis of the Goldenheart is a great, gilded tower shield embossed with the image of a hero engaged in a final stand atop a tower. While attuned to this shield, you gain the following effects:

Protector's Burden. When a creature you can see within 30ft. takes damage from any source, you can use a reaction to take the damage instead, causing them to take no damage from the effect.

  • When you do so, the damage cannot be reduced or avoided in any way, and you have Vulnerability to all damage from the effect, regardless of damage type, your own Resistances and/or Immunities, or any other features which would affect damage taken.
  • If the damage came from a source which affects multiple creatures, only the damage to the targeted creature is negated. All other creatures take damage as normal.
  • If this damage kills you, you die immediately and cannot be brought back to life by any means short of the Wish spell or similar magics.

You can use this feature a number of times per Short Rest equal to your Constitution modifier.

Hero's Rite. You can increase either your charisma, strength, or constitution scores by 3. Alternatively, you can increase all three scores by 1.

Magical Shield. While attuned to the shield, it weighs nothing while in your inventory. Additionally, the shield can be stowed and unstowed in a demiplane just large enough to hold it (and nothing else) as a bonus action in combat. Doing so in this way immediately dons or doffs the shield, without requiring an additional action.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
