Meticulously designed by Primus to spread the word of true Law, and gifted to individuals that he finds worthy to fight chaos outside the plane of Mechanus. The contents of the book include, but are not limited to, mathematical formulas, absolute truths, codes to follow, tales of conquest of savage tribes, fiendish contracts, holy judgments, prophecies fulfilled, the creation of cults and religions, and triumphs due to merit and careful planning, all perfectly alphabetized into sections and chapters, written by Primus or written by its users and directly approved by Primus. Any lawful creature can read the text and fully comprehend its meaning, even if it cannot read or write in any languages. The book automatically alphabetizes itself to suit an attuned creature. The given name and true name of every creature that has used the book are recorded in the opening pages of the book. In the final pages of the book is a perfect index of every chapter, and every section in the book. When an attuned creature opens the book to an existing entry known to it, the book magically opens to the correct page. An attuned creature may alter the book's contents if the changes are directly approved by Primus.
A complex locking mechanism protects the contents of the book, which only Primus and an attuned creature can open. The cover resembles the constantly moving, spinning gears and springs of an exposed clock, though an attuned creature can recognize that it is a detailed map of Mechanus. Once opened, an attuned creature must spend 80 hours reading and studying the book to digest its contents and gain its benefits.
If a non-lawful creature with under 30 intelligence attempts to read the book the complexity prevents them from deciphering any of the contents. If a chaotic creature tries to attune to the book, it is punished for attempting to break the laws of the universe and it is treated as if it drew the "Donjon" card from the Deck of Many Things.
The benefits granted by the Book of Unwavering Absolutes last only as long as you follow a code from the book. A Paladin with an Oath does not need to take a code from the book, though it loses the benefits of the book if it breaks the tenets of its oath.
-Selected Properties: The Book of Unwavering Absolutes has the following selected properties, the DM chooses these properties.
-1 major beneficial property
-3 minor beneficial properties
-2 minor detrimental properties
-Increased Ability Scores: The DM increases 1 of your ability scores by 4, to a maximum of 24, and decreases 1 of your ability scores by 2, to a minimum of 1.
-Codes of Law: You select a code from the book that you must follow, unless you are a Paladin with an oath.
-1- Truth: To lie is to give in to anarchy, the truthful must flourish and the deceptive must be destroyed. [You are bound by your word and the intention of it. If you make a promise or accept a task you must fulfill the task. If you fail to fulfill or break this promise then you break this code. If you attempt to mislead someone by tricky wording you break this code. If you ever attempt to mislead or deceive someone you break this code.]
-2- Loyalty: Allies, comrades, and masters are what keeps a mind coherent, to abandon your allies or forsake your master is to give in to chaos. [You are bound to the people who you see as friends or superiors. You have one or more masters you choose, for example a mentor, guardian, religious leader, parents, or elder. If you refuse to follow an order willingly given by your master that is not suicidal you break this code. If you are within a mile of your master and they die of something other than old age you break this code. You have 5 or more people you trust with your life and would protect at all costs. These are your allies. If you allow one of your allies to die within 1 mile of you when you could have protected or saved them, you fall unconscious with 2 failed death saves and break this code. You cannot be magically or medically stabilized from this state without a 7th level casting of a spell that restores hit points, the only way to get out of it is to roll 3 successful death saving throws. If you allow an ally to be lost in some way other than death wherein you could have realistically saved them you break this code. If you take a hostile action any of your allies or masters you break this code.]
-3- Civilization: Society is the ultimate paragon of the law, anything outside or below the safety and watchful eye of civilization is useless chaos. [You are bound to the laws of whatever nation you may be in, if you physically cannot follow the laws of a nation then you are stopped by an impassable magic barrier at its borders. If you break the law in any nation you are in you break this code. If you refuse to tell law enforcement information you know of a criminal when questioned you break this code.]
-4-Honor: You must always face your foes with courage, hiding in the shadows like a coward is for the lawless. [You are bound to your courage in battle. If you ever steal something someone is carrying without them noticing, you break this code. If you ever attack a creature that is surprised, unaware of you, or incapacitated you break this code. If you ever attempt to flee from a fight, your movement speed is halved.]
-Aspect of Control: After you spend the requisite amount of time reading and studying the book you are magically changed in accordance with your service to Primus. Your body is altered as a sign of this. Perhaps your organs have been replaced by perfectly arranged clockwork, you bleed oil, your face and body become perfectly symmetrical, the iris of your eyes appear as small brass cogs, your breath and heartbeat are always a constant rate no matter what you may be doing, you have a strange and constant habit you partake in at a certain time of the day, or any other aspect the DM chooses. This alteration gives creatures advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks to predict your actions and you gain advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks to predict another creatures actions, Charisma (Intimidation) checks against any chaotic creature, and Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with lawful creatures.
-Predictable Outcomes: Any time you take or deal damage, heal another creature, are healed by something, or level up, instead of rolling for health, you must use the average result of the dice rounded up and instead of rolling for damage, you always take the average result of damage dice rounded down, and always deal the average result of the damage dice rounded up. Also, before you roll an ability check, attack, or saving throw, you can choose to forgo rolling and instead consider the roll as an 11, you can use this a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus.
-Supreme Conviction: You cannot be magically compelled to do something that breaks your oath or code. You also cannot be magically influenced by any chaotic creature. You also gain advantage and proficiency with your choice of Wisdom, Intelligence, or Charisma saving throws. You can choose to give either of these bonuses to two different types of saving throws. You can also choose to apply the proficiency to a saving throw you are already proficient in, doing so doubles your proficiency bonus in that saving throw.
-Servant of Mechanus: You have a direct telepathic link with the creator of the book, you may telepathically communicate with it at any time, and it may telepathically communicate with you at any time. If you die while attuned to the book, you become a pentadrone under the DM's control and are instantly transported to Mechanus.
-Destroying the book: This book cannot be truly destroyed as long as Primus lives, however throwing the book into Limbo will cause it to instantly implode in a radius of 50 feet and destroy it. Any creature caught in the radius takes 165 force damage. If this happens then a perfect copy of the book will be created by Primus in 50 years and 6 months.
Notes: This is a fairly early draft, so I don't expect this to be perfect, any ideas or revisions you can offer are greatly appreciated, especially for codes, I need more of those. I have a few in mind like family and honor but nothing really solid for what they would do.
Notes: creature of lawful alignment, Communication, Social, Detection, Utility, Combat, Tag, Tags, divination
