Weapon (scimitar), very rare (requires attunement)

Name: Andúril, the Will That Returned

Rank: Ascended
Tier: IV
Type: Scimitar (Attunement)

Description

This scimitar’s blade curves in a long, elegant arc, its silver edge catching light like a crescent moon. Ancient runes trace the spine of the blade rather than the edge, fractured in places where the metal was once broken and reforged. Despite its size, it feels perfectly balanced—almost eager to move.

When released, the scimitar does not fall. It hovers, slowly rotating, as if awaiting permission to strike.

Story

Once, this blade shattered at the feet of a fallen king. Its pieces lay scattered as the world moved on, believing the age of such weapons had ended. But the Nightmare Spell remembers moments that history abandons.

When the fragments were reforged, the blade did not simply return—it remembered. It remembered every command it never answered, every battle it was absent from, every oath left unfinished.

Andúril does not dance through the air because it is enchanted to do so.
It dances because it refuses to be still again.

Effects (Dancing Scimitar — Memory Conversion)

This Memory functions as a Dancing Scimitar with the following properties:

  • +3 magic weapon

  • You may use a Bonus Action to toss the scimitar into the air, causing it to hover and animate

While Hovering:

  • The scimitar may fly up to 30 feet and make one attack against a creature within 5 feet of itself

  • The scimitar uses your attack roll and adds your ability modifier to damage rolls

  • On subsequent turns, you may use a Bonus Action to move the scimitar up to 30 feet and make another attack

  • After the scimitar makes four attacks, it attempts to return to your hand

Restrictions:

  • The scimitar ceases hovering if you grasp it or move more than 30 feet away from it

  • If it cannot return by an unobstructed path, it falls harmlessly to the ground as close to you as possible

Nightmare Trait

Each time Andúril strikes while unheld, faint echoes of marching feet and distant steel-on-steel can be heard. The blade subtly pulls toward enemies of authority and command, as though drawn to unfinished wars.

Proficiency with a Scimitar allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Nick. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.

Notes: Damage: Melee Weapon Attacks, Finesse, Light, Nick
