One day, when a god known as "The Stranger" was bored, he decided to write down all the evil behaviors, objects, and individuals in the universe. When the pages were all black with ink, he took white ink and continued, writing down all the good things in the universe.
The Grey Book is rather large and thick, with a worn cover of a deep mauve, though faded by age. Every creature attuning to the book must succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 17) or become neutral.
When a creature attuned to the Grey Book begins to read it, it will see only a jumble of black and white writing forming grey. However, with over 120 hours of study, spread over up to 4 years, the book's owner will begin to glimpse fragments of the writing of "The Stranger".
The book contains the life of every individual, good or evil, and of every object affiliated with the extremes of alignment. It contains the exact location of each of these individuals and objects, although finding the correct information on the correct individual, in its entirety, is a miracle.
When carrying and attuned to the Grey Book, you gain the following effects :
- You cannot be charmed.
- You have advantage on any attack rolls, ability checks, or saving throw DCs you impose targeting a creature good or evil.
- You cannot gain Heroic Inspiration
- You have disadvantage on action that are totally good or evil (at the DM’s discretion).
- "The stranger" can take the book away from you at any time.
At first, it just looked grey. I didn't think much of it. It was only later that I realized something was written there. I don’t know who wrote it, but… he really knew what he was doing. Huh? Hey! Wait! It's mine!
Wilfrid, Bloodhunter, his book being taken by a hooded stranger with bright purple eyes.
