Appearance
The blade is forged of radiant silver-white steel, unmarred by age or battle. Veins of soft golden light run along its fuller like living scripture. The crossguard bears a sunburst sigil etched with ancient holy runes.
When evil is near, the sword emits a magnificent white glow, bright as dawn breaking through darkness, casting long, pure shadows.
Lore
The Sword of Light once belonged to High Paladin Seraphiel Dawnward, mentor and master to its current bearer. In a final stand against a great evil, Seraphiel sacrificed himself to seal the darkness away, entrusting his blade—and his unfinished duty—to his student.
The sword does not forget its former wielder. It recognizes righteousness, obedience to divine law, and unyielding resolve. Those who stray from the path find it heavy, uncooperative, or silent.
“This blade does not grant power. It reveals who is worthy to wield it.”
Weapon Properties
-
+3 Longsword
-
Counts as a magical weapon
-
Deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage when attuned
Radiant Judgment
When you hit a fiend, undead, or creature of evil alignment, the Sword of Light deals an additional 2d10 radiant damage.
If the target is a major evil entity (DM’s discretion—demon lords, undead champions, corrupted dragons, etc.), this bonus increases to 3d10 radiant damage.
Beacon of Truth
The sword sheds bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet whenever an evil creature is within 120 feet.
This light:
-
Cannot be suppressed by magical darkness of 5th level or lower
-
Causes illusion magic used by evil creatures in the light to flicker and distort (advantage on checks to see through illusions)
Mentor’s Legacy
Once per long rest, when you or an ally within 30 feet would drop to 0 hit points due to damage from an evil creature, you may use your reaction to invoke your mentor’s final blessing:
-
The target instead drops to 1 hit point
-
The Sword of Light flares brilliantly
-
All evil creatures within 15 feet must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the end of their next turn
Divine Smite Amplification
When you use Divine Smite with the Sword of Light:
-
Add +1 additional radiant damage die
-
Against fiends or undead, add +2 additional radiant damage dice instead
Oathbound Weapon
If a creature that is not Lawful Good attempts to attune to the Sword of Light:
-
The attunement automatically fails
-
The creature takes 4d10 radiant damage
-
The sword goes dormant for 24 hours
If the wielder knowingly breaks their oath, the sword’s glow dims and all bonus effects are suppressed until the paladin atones.
Voice of the Mentor (Roleplay Feature)
In moments of great doubt, sacrifice, or moral trial, the DM may allow the sword to whisper brief guidance in the familiar voice of the mentor—never giving answers, only reminders of duty.
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
