The analytical amplifier is a complex machine that can be built by the best craftsmen. Its design requires skills in several areas of craftsmanship and a good dose of luck. The appearance of the machine changes depending on its creator, but it often resembles a box, made of wood, copper or iron, from which several wires emerge. An amethyst is also visible on the top.

The different parts of the machine must be created in the following way:

Copper wires require a smith's tools and two copper ingots to craft. The ingots must be stretch into 30 copper wires (DD 16 for each ingot), each ingot can produce 15 wires.

The manufacture of the box requires either carpenter's tools (wooden box) or smith's tools (iron/copper box). The manufacture (DD 16) of the box requires a sufficient quantity of the desired material

The electrodes to be inserted into the target's brain require copper, rubber, a small amount of gold, and two small amethysts (about the size of a grain of sand, a least 50GP). Copper must be modified with smiths' tools (DD 18) so as to form a thin filament, the same for gold. The assembly of the electrodes requires tinker's tools (DD 20) and consists of enclosing the gold and copper wires in a rubber rod. The amethyst should be at the end of the stem, repeat this process for the two electrodes.

The amethyst on top should be hollowed out (jeweler's tools, DD 14) and should be worth at least 1000 GP. The hollowed out part must be lined with copper wires and be embedded in the wooden box (DD 12).

The inside of the box must be permanently filled with a mixture made from mind flayer blood, a drop of divine blood, and a brain (having belonged to a being with 18+ intelligence) dried by the spell Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting and reduced to powder. The illithid blood and the drop of divine blood must be distilled three times, the brain can then be dissolved in the resulting mixture.

The final assembly takes about three hours with the tinker's tools (DD 16), the blueprint dissapear.

Once assembled, the electrodes can be inserted into a target's brain (Dexterity DC 12, otherwise 1d4 psychic damage). Afterward, a caster must cast a mind-altering spell on the stone (charm person, modify memory, etc.). Once this is done, roll 1D6.

1 : The target get 4D12 psychic damages and is stunned for 1d4 hours.

2 : The target gains the frightened condition for 1d6 hours.

3 : The target can no longer retry the process.

4 : The target gains +2 temporary intelligence for 1d4 hours.

5 : The target gains a permanent +2 intelligence, and can no longer retry the process.

6 : The target gains a permanent +2 Intelligence bonus and advantage on all Intelligence-based rolls. The target can no longer retry the process.

The amplification process uses a charge from the amplifier. The amplifier has 1 charge and regains 1D4 - 3 charges at each dawn. The amplifier cannot have a negative number of charges. If the last charge of the amplifier is used, roll a d20; on a 1, the amplifier is turned into a blueprint. The amplifier can't be created without its blueprint.

"Well, I'm finally ready. Four months of hard work, I'm finally going to be smart, cast Charm Person John." *CLIC* *Humming of the machine* *Screams of Wilfrid* *Sound of the machine crumbling into dust*
