Staff (quarterstaff), artifact (requires attunement by a By a Wizard or Druid)

This staff once belonged to the Frost King. He uses it as a focus for spellcasting. When the Frost King was not yet so powerful, he acquired this staff from a merchant for only a few gold coins. As the Frost King grew stronger than he should have through the power of the Ice Arcanum, his staff also became more powerful and developed special abilities. The staff is covered in frost.
The staff has 20 charges and regains 1d20 charges at the end of each long rest completed by its wielder.

Freezing Strike.
You make a melee weapon attack. In this case, the staff counts as a +4 quarterstaff, and the creature attuned to the staff is automatically proficient with it. On a hit, the staff deals an extra 3d6 cold damage, and the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 18) or become Restrained for 1 minute as it is covered in frost. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Random Properties.
The Staff of the Frost King has the following randomly determined properties:

  • 2 minor beneficial properties

  • 1 major beneficial property

  • 1 minor detrimental property

Spells of Frost.
You can use the staff to cast the following spells, and you can also use the staff as a spellcasting focus. Casting these spells costs charges as listed:

  • Sleet Storm (2 charges)

  • Ice Knife (1 charge)

  • Cone of Cold (3 charges)

  • Ice Storm (3 charges)

  • Wall of Ice (4 charges)

Additionally, you can change the damage type of spells you cast using this staff as a spellcasting focus to cold damage.

Immunity to Cold.
You are immune to cold damage. Your Constitution score increases by 2, to a maximum of 24.

Soul of Ice.
While you are attuned to this staff and are within 60 km of the Ice Arcanum, when you would drop to 0 hit points, you instead drop to 1 hit point. You gain the Regeneration trait, regaining 10 hit points at the start of each of your turns.

Servants of the Frost King.
As an action, you can summon one of the following creatures. The summoned creature acts immediately after you and obeys your commands. You can summon the following creatures:

  • Adult White Dragon (20 charges)

  • Ice Mephit (2 charges)

  • Winter Wolf (4 charges)

  • Frost Giant (12 charges)

  • Abominable Yeti (13 charges)

The summoned creatures disappear after 1 minute or when you dismiss them (no action required).

Destruction of the Staff of the Frost King.
To destroy this staff, all of the following conditions must be met:

  • The Frost King must be dead

  • The staff must be on a different plane of the multiverse than the Frost King’s dead body

  • The Ice Arcanum must be destroyed

  • The staff must be more than 150 Miles away from the destroyed Ice Arcanum

Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
