When pinned to clothing, the badge rests with unusual balance, as though its weight were precisely measured.
When dormant, the badge appears inert and mundane. When its magic is invoked, its surface subtly reshapes, adopting the appearance of an insignia, seal, or emblem appropriate to the role its bearer assumes.
Assumed Office
While the Aegis of Office is pinned openly to your clothing, you can use an action to assume the appearance of a believable social role or station of authority, such as a guard, courier, official, clerk, merchant, laborer, pilgrim, beggar, or similar figure appropriate to the setting.

While under the effects of Assumed Office, you can understand and speak one language appropriate to the role you have assumed, even if you do not normally know it.
This ability allows for functional communication suitable for routine conversation and professional interaction, but does not grant full fluency or scholarly understanding. The knowledge fades immediately when the transformation ends.
Veiled Identity
While under the effects of Assumed Office, divination magic that would identify you by name, true appearance, or personal identity instead perceives you only as the role you have assumed.
This property does not prevent divination that targets locations, objects, or general phenomena, nor does it block mundane investigation or close personal scrutiny.
Fragmented Recall
When the transformation granted by Assumed Office ends, you immediately remember the outcome of your actions but not all of the details surrounding how those outcomes were achieved.

Reviewing such anchors after the transformation ends immediately restores some clarity regarding the preserved information.
Arcane Detection
While dormant, the Aegis of Office does not register as magical to spells such as detect magic.
While Assumed Office is active, the Aegis emits a faint aura of illusion magic, localized to the badge itself.
