Wondrous Item, uncommon

Amulet of the Cotton Hen Wondrous item, uncommon

This small, carved wooden egg pendant is strung on a cord woven from cotton fibers. It hums faintly with clucking sounds when shaken.

To use this amulet, you must have the Folk Hero background (or a similar rustic, community-oriented origin approved by the DM, such as a farmer or village protector). While holding or wearing this amulet, you gain the following benefits:

  • You can cast the find familiar spell once per long rest without expending a spell slot or providing material components (the amulet supplies them).
  • The familiar is always a chicken (90% of the time) or an aggressive rooster (10% of the time). Roll a d20 when summoning: on a 1 or 2, it’s a rooster; otherwise, it’s a chicken.
  • When you cast the spell, your existing chicken companion (Cluckers) is automatically summoned as the familiar if it is within 30 feet (using the appropriate form). Otherwise, a new one appears.

  • Alarm Cluck (reaction, 1/long rest): The chicken lets out an ear-piercing squawk when it perceives a hidden creature or danger within 30 ft., granting allies advantage on the next initiative roll or Perception check to locate the threat.
