"It seems that these devices come from a strange universe, one born of puppets and monsters. It makes me wonder if there is any intent or pattern to Resonation, but, unfortunately, all data has come up inconclusive."
Pulse Cells were invented with the idea of converting external impact into accumulated energy. The Aegis is the Workshop Union's creation that explored this principle most aggressively.
When you have attuned to this item, this prosthetic harmlessly wraps around a creature's non-dominant limb, or replaces a lost limb. If you are a Warforged, you can attune immediately to this item. If you are attuned to multiple Legion Arms, you must spend an action to switch them. If you are a Warforged, you can instead switch as a bonus action.
Basic Operation. When using this Legion Arm, you gain the benefit of a shield while still having a free hand and gain a +2 to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution saving throws. You cannot gain the benefit of another shield while you have this arm equipped. As a reaction when you are about to be hit by an attack roll or a Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution saving throw, you can expend a charge to engage the explosive cell embedded in the shield. Regardless on a hit or miss, the cell explodes, pushing you back 5 feet and forcing any creature that was 10 feet in front of you to make a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d4 + the Legion Arm tiers' worth of fire damage and be pushed back 5 feet. Creatures that triggered the reaction automatically fail. On a success, the damage is halved and the creature is not pushed back. The saving throw DC is equal to 10 + an ability score modifier of your choice + your proficiency bonus. See the bottom to see the Aegis' tiers.
Upgrading a Legion Arm. If you have proficiency with Tinker's Tools, you can upgrade your Legion Arm using the tools by spending an hour during a Short Rest or Long Rest so long as you have the required number of Legion Calibers; the number required marked next to the upgrade. Each upgrade is necessary to advance to the next one, and if you are able to perform multiple upgrades, you can do so within the same hour.
Upgrade: Guard Attack (1). When you take the Dodge action on your turn, you can make an Opportunity Attack against creatures that attempt to hit you with an attack roll or force a saving throw on you without expending your reaction.
Upgrade: Guard Parry (2). When you use your reaction to use the basic operation ability, you can expend another charge to add your proficiency bonus to your AC or the saving throw. If you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic features, you can instead expend a 3rd level spellslot or higher instead of the additional charge.
Upgrade: Counter Charge (3). When the cell explodes after using the basic operation ability or a Guard Parry, you can choose to charge back at the source of the triggering reaction. You jump up to your movement speed. If you collide with a creature, make a melee weapon attack roll. On a hit, you deal damage equal to the explosion damage, but it is magical bludgeoning instead of fire, and silence the creature and halve their movement speed until the end of their next turn. You have advantage on the roll if you collide with a creature hit by the explosion.
Legion Arm Tiers. Legion Arms scale proportionally to your Strength, Dexterity, and your choice of Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma modifiers, represented as Motivity, Technique, and Advance respectively. Damage is calculated by multiplying the modifiers to each tier and summing them. You can alter the Legion Arm's innate tiers using Cranks. Optional. If you use your Constitution for either your weapon or spellcasting modifiers, you can choose to use it for the Motivity and Advance tier respectively instead of the normal ability.
