Wondrous Item, rare

The Aurelith Petalrose is a cultivated marvel, its broad petals layered in alternating bands of deep cerulean and soft gold, threaded with hair-fine metallic filaments. Each petal feels supple yet resilient, like silk reinforced with wire. When turned beneath a steady light, the rose catches and redistributes illumination across its surface in slow, deliberate patterns.

The flower emits no scent, yet arcane practitioners often report a sensation of clarity and composure when holding it, as if their thoughts have been gently ordered before spellwork begins.

Raw Material Use

In its natural state, Aurelith Petalrose may be used as a material component for spells involving restoration, protection, transmutation, illumination, or controlled magical shaping.

  • When used raw, one or more petals are consumed during casting.
  • When you cast a spell using raw Aurelith petals, choose one of the following benefits:
    • Gain a +1 bonus to one spell attack roll or spell save DC of the spell.
    • Increase the spell’s duration by 1 round (if it has a duration).
  • If the spell restores hit points or grants temporary hit points, increase the total restored or granted by +2.

Risk:
After the spell resolves, the caster must succeed on a DC 11 Intelligence saving throw or suffer minor mental strain, imposing disadvantage on the next Arcana or Concentration check they make before the end of their next turn.

Processing the Material

Through petal lamination, alchemical curing, and sigil-thread reinforcement, the Aurelith Petalrose can be refined into Stabilized Aurelith Leaves suitable for repeated spellcasting.

Processing Requirements

  • Proficiency with Herbalism Kit or Alchemist’s Supplies
  • 10 hours of work
  • 75 gp in reagents
  • One intact Aurelith Petalrose

The processed material is not consumed when used as a spell component.

Processed Component Benefits

When used as a material component or integrated into a spellcasting focus, Processed Aurelith grants the following benefits:

  • Measured Conduction:
Once per turn, when you roll damage or healing for a spell, you may treat one die result of 1 or 2 as a 3.
  • Gilded Stability:
When you make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration, you gain a +2 bonus to the roll.
  • Refined Casting:
When you cast a spell that grants a bonus (such as AC, saving throws, or ability checks), that bonus increases by +1, to a maximum increase of +1 per spell.

These benefits apply only if the processed material is actively used as part of the spell’s components or housed within a focus.

Limitations

  • Processed Aurelith has no effect on spells of 7th level or higher.
  • A creature can benefit from only one processed Aurelith source at a time.
  • If removed from any light source for more than 72 hours, the processed material becomes inert until exposed to steady light for 1 hour.

Lore

Aurelith Petalroses are cultivated in secluded arcane gardens overseen by mage-horticulturalists and ritual orders. They are prized for their balance and restraint, favoring precision and reliability over raw output. Many veteran spellcasters prefer Aurelith-infused focuses for daily workings where control is paramount.

Because the flowers require years of careful tending, their trade is tightly regulated and often bound by guild contracts.

Destruction

Raw petals crumble into harmless metallic dust if burned. Processed Aurelith can be rendered inert by submerging it in distilled water mixed with powdered salt for one hour, after which it becomes mundane plant matter.
