Astral Cataclysm Wraps
Legendary Weapon (Whip), Requires Attunement by a Shifter
Lore
Long before the planes learned to keep their distance from one another, there existed a shifter known only as The Cataclysm-Bound—a being whose soul could not settle into a single shape. Each transformation tore fragments from the Astral Sea itself, causing ripples across the elemental planes. Where others shattered under such strain, this shifter endured… and learned to bind the chaos.
From that binding came the Astral Cataclysm Wraps.
Forged not in a forge, but within a collapsing astral convergence, the wraps were woven from living planar threads—each strand drawn from a different cosmic force at the moment the planes screamed apart and rejoined. They were wrapped around the shifter’s forearms, wrists, and hands, coiling like resting serpents when dormant, and unraveling into crackling, spectral lashes when unleashed.
Unlike traditional whips, the Wraps do not merely strike flesh. Each lash carries the echo of a planar disaster.
Nature of the Wraps
When wielded, the Astral Cataclysm Wraps extend into shifting lengths of astral energy, constantly reforming their composition with each swing. No two strikes ever feel the same. Witnesses describe impacts that freeze and burn simultaneously, or blows that leave no wound—yet drive victims screaming into madness or radiant silence.
Each successful strike deals additional elemental and cosmic damage, manifesting as:
-
1d6 Acid – sizzling astral ichor that corrodes reality itself
-
1d6 Cold – void-frost drawn from dead stars
-
1d6 Fire – primordial ignition from the birth of suns
-
1d6 Force – raw planar pressure collapsing inward
-
1d6 Lightning – astral arcs snapping between planes
-
1d6 Necrotic – entropy stolen from dying worlds
-
1d6 Poison – alchemical venom refined by cosmic decay
-
1d6 Psychic – echoes of shattered minds from across the Astral Sea
-
1d6 Radiant – blinding judgment of celestial convergence
-
1d6 Thunder – the sound of reality tearing and resealing
These energies do not exist independently; they overlap, briefly turning the space around the target into a micro-cataclysm.
Bond with Shifters
The Astral Cataclysm Wraps reject static souls. When attuned by a shifter, the weapon synchronizes with their transformations, tightening or loosening its coils as the wielder changes form. Legends say the wraps grow warmer when a shift begins—and scream silently if forced onto one who denies their mutable nature.
Some scholars believe the weapon subtly encourages evolution, pushing its wielder toward more extreme or hybridized forms over time.
Legends & Warnings
-
Entire warbands have vanished after attempting to steal the Wraps, their bodies later found crystallized, scorched, or untouched but hollow-eyed.
-
The Astral Sea remembers this weapon. Certain extraplanar beings react with fear—or reverence—upon sensing it.
-
If the Wraps are ever fully unbound, they are said to be capable of triggering a localized planar collapse, though no one knows if the wielder would survive such an act.
Whispered Name
Among planar travelers, the weapon is not called a whip.
