This perfectly smooth crystal sphere measures approximately 4 inches (9–10 cm) in diameter. It is composed of dark green-black translucent crystal that absorbs light rather than reflecting it. It bears no carvings, runes, or metal fittings.

Within the orb, dense, fluid-like mist slowly swirls. Deep inside, shadowed tentacles occasionally become visible—alien, scaled, and immense. They never touch the inner surface of the sphere, as if existing in a separate, sealed dimensional fragment.

The orb contains Zha’kul Tharion, a planar warden who willingly accepted imprisonment to preserve the stability of a sealed breach between planes.

When held by its attuned bearer, the orb rises and hovers 1–2 inches above the palm, suspended silently in the air.

Telepathic Communion

While attuned:

  • The sealed entity can communicate telepathically with the bearer at any distance, provided the orb is on their person.

  • Communication manifests as impressions, images, and brief, measured statements.

  • The bearer must respond aloud.

During communication, the bearer’s eyes briefly glow green and a translucent membrane passes over them.

The orb does not charm, dominate, or compel the bearer.

Boundary Awareness

The bearer has advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) and Intelligence (Religion) checks related to:

  • Planar breaches

  • Magical seals

  • Aberrations

  • Extraplanar incursions

If a planar disturbance occurs within 1 mile, the bearer feels pressure behind the eyes, and the mist within the orb accelerates.

Depth Resistance

While attuned:

  • The bearer is immune to the frightened condition caused by aberrations.

  • The bearer has advantage on saving throws against charm or madness effects originating from aberrations.

Depth’s Warning (3 Charges)

The orb has 3 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dawn.

When the bearer makes a Wisdom or Charisma saving throw, they may use their reaction to expend 1 charge and add 1d4 to the roll.

Warden’s Judgment (1/Long Rest)

As an action, the bearer may target one aberration, fiend, or creature summoned from another plane within 30 feet.

The target must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or:

  • Take 6d8 psychic damage, and

  • Become Restrained until the end of its next turn.

On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not restrained.

Seal Stabilization (1/7 Days)

Once every 7 days, the orb can temporarily stabilize a fractured magical seal or close a minor planar rift for up to 1 hour.

This does not permanently repair the breach.

Artifact Risk

Whenever Warden’s Judgment is used, roll a d20.

On a roll of 1:

  • The bearer suffers Planar Disorientation until the end of their next turn (disadvantage on all rolls).

If the orb is deliberately used to weaken or break a magical seal, it becomes inert for 30 days and all communication from the sealed entity ceases during that time.
