The blade appears forged from void-dark steel, its edge constantly bleeding smokeless, violet-black flame. Infernal runes crawl and rearrange themselves like living script along the fuller. When curses are invoked, shadowy fire coils around the sword, briefly forming the outline of a crowned, horned silhouette behind the wielder.
Weapon Properties
• +1 Greatsword (can advance to +2 at higher tiers)
• Counts as magical
• While attuned, the sword may serve as your Profane Soul spellcasting focus
Hexbound Rite
When you activate Crimson Rite on this weapon, it binds to your patron’s will.
• Your Crimson Rite damage becomes necrotic or psychic (choose on activation).
• Once per turn, when you hit a creature affected by your Hex or Hexblade’s Curse, you deal extra damage equal to your Hemocraft die (same type as your Rite).
Patron’s Claim
Your patron rewards the efficient harvest of cursed souls.
• When a creature affected by Hex or Hexblade’s Curse drops to 0 hit points, you may use your reaction to regain hit points equal to your Hemocraft die + your Intelligence modifier (or Constitution, DM’s choice).
• The blade’s flames briefly invert, burning inward instead of outward.
Tithe of the Pact
Power is never free.
• Each time you activate Crimson Rite with this weapon, you take 1 additional necrotic damage that cannot be reduced
• If you end a turn without concentrating on a spell while your Rite is active, the blade deals 1 necrotic damage to you as the patron reminds you of the bargain.
Hexfire Convergence
Once per long rest, when you hit a creature cursed by you, you may channel both blade and pact magic:
• The target takes 2d6 necrotic or psychic damage (your choice)
• You gain advantage on the next saving throw you make before the end of your next turn
• Shadow-flames erupt briefly in a 5-ft radius, snuffing out nonmagical light
Sentience (Optional Flavor)
Ashbrand does not speak aloud—it tightens your grip when it approves and grows unnaturally heavy when you hesitate. It urges precision, curses over chaos, and despises wasted blood.
“Do not burn the world. Mark it. Break it. Collect what is owed.”
Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
Notes: Damage: Fire, Bonus: Melee Attacks, Requires attunement by a Blood Hunter (Order of the Profane Soul — Hexblade), Damage, Combat, Heavy, Two-Handed, Graze
