A thin wire, cord, or chain designed for silent assassinations. Garrotes are favored by spies, assassins, and covert operatives who rely on stealth rather than brute force.
Special: Garrote
You can only attack a creature with a garrote if it is grappled by you, surprised, or unaware of your presence.
On a hit, the target becomes grappled by the garrote (escape DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier).
While grappled this way:
-
The target takes 1d4 slashing damage at the start of each of your turns.
-
You must use one hand to maintain the garrote.
-
The grapple ends if the creature escapes, you release it, or you become incapacitated.
Silent Killer
If you hit a creature that is surprised, the attack qualifies for Sneak Attack, even if you would not normally meet the requirements.
Strangled
A creature grappled by the garrote cannot speak or cast spells with verbal components.
Proficiency with a Dagger allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Nick. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
Notes: Finesse, Light, Thrown, Nick
