Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement by a 12th level spell-caster of INT 20 or higher that spends one hour studying the artifact under an open sky at night. At the end of the attunement, the creature must succeed on a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, alien star-patterns flood their mind, causing 3d6 psychic damage and leaving them stunned until the end of their next turn. The attunement still succeeds. Once attuned, the creature becomes the Archivist of the Lexicon.)

A relic of impossible geometry, the Aberrant Lexicon is said to have been crafted by a brilliant elven archmage seeking to chart the heavens beyond the known stars. Her research led her to study the strange astronomical distortions that appear in the night sky—regions where reality itself bends toward unknowable realms.

The result was not a book, but a five-dimensional geometric device that catalogs and communicates with the intelligences lurking beyond those celestial anomalies.

The Lexicon manifests as a shifting polyhedral construct, its form appearing different depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The object seems both perfectly still and subtly rotating through dimensions that mortal perception cannot fully grasp.

  • The flat planes of the object shimmer with glowing violet sigils, written in a language no mortal mind can focus on for long. Attempting to read them causes the glyphs to slide out of perception like a forgotten dream.

  • The edges burn with a faint blue radiance, hot like distant starlight.

  • The Lexicon levitate roughly 5 inches above any surface or object beneath it, slowly orbiting invisible points in space.

Scholars believe the device acts as both a celestial chart and conduit, allowing its wielder to call upon or repel entities that dwell beyond the veil of the stars.

Each time the Lexicon is used, you must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failure: You suffer 4d10 psychic damage You gain one level of exhaustion

Astral Index

The Lexicon constantly rearranges its faces to mirror distant celestial patterns.

As an action, you may consult the shifting runes while observing the sky or an aberration within 120 ft.

You instantly learn:

  • The creature’s Challenge Rating

  • Its damage resistances and immunities

  • Whether it is native to the current plane

You can use this feature once per long rest.

Banishment Protocol

The Lexicon may also return aberrations to the void between stars.

As an action, choose any number of aberrations you can see within 60 ft whose combined CR does not exceed 21.

Each must make a Charisma Saving Throw:

Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier

Failure: The creature is banished to the plane it was previously at. If that plane is where it belongs, the banishment is permanent.

Success: The creature is restrained by writhing astral script for 3 turns, after which it is immediately freed.

Invocation of the Distant Chorus

The Lexicon allows its Archivist to summon aberrations from beyond the stars.

Casting Time

3 rounds

  • Round 1: You begin aligning the Lexicon with a distant stellar anomaly (concentration required).

  • Round 2: Violet runes project outward, forming a 30-ft radius summoning circle.

  • Round 3: The chosen aberration(s) emerge from a tear in space.

If your concentration is broken before the third round, the invocation fails and cannot be attempted again until the next dawn.

Summoning Limits

You summon aberrations whose combined Challenge Rating is no more than 21.

The number of creatures summoned depends on their CR:

Number of Creatures Maximum CR Each
1 CR 21 or lower
2 CR 12 or lower
3 CR 8 or lower
4 CR 6 or lower
5 CR 5 or lower

The creatures must be aberrations you have previously encountered or thoroughly studied.

They appear in unoccupied spaces within the summoning circle.

Control

The summoned creatures remain for 5 minutes.

They are friendly to you and your allies, obeying verbal commands.

If you issue no commands, they defend themselves but otherwise take no actions.

Notes: Language: Deep Speech, Advantage: Arcana, 12th level spell-caster of INT 20 or higher that spends one hour studying the artifact under an open sky at night. At the end of the attunement, the creature must succeed on a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw. On a failure, alien star-patterns flood their mind, causing 3d6 psychic damage and leaving them stunned until the end of their next turn. The attunement still succeeds. Once attuned, the creature becomes the Archivist of the Lexicon.
