Formerly: Rodan's Shield of the Cavalier
Armor (Shield), Legendary (requires attunement)
Appearance: The shield’s surface is cracked obsidian. Draconic runes pulse like a heartbeat. When struck, it emits a dull, tomb-like thud.
Properties:
You gain the shield’s normal +2 bonus, PLUS another +1 (total: +3).
Retains all original features, AND:
Necrotic Bash
When you use Forceful Bash, you deal:
When you take the Attack action, you can make one of the attack rolls using the Shield against a target within 5 feet of yourself. Apply your Proficiency Bonus and Strength modifier to the attack roll. On a hit, the Shield deals 2d6 + 2 + your Strength modifier Force damage and 2d6 necrotic damage to the target. On hit, you may knock the target prone and also reduce the target’s movement to 0 until the end of its next turn. If the target is a creature, you can push it up to 10 feet directly away from yourself.
Protective Coffin (1/Day): As a Reaction, when you or an ally you can see within 5 feet of you is targeted by an attack or makes a saving throw against an area of effect, you can use the Shield to create an immobile 10-foot Emanation originating from you:
- Creates a 10-foot radius impenetrable necrotic ward
- Creatures inside are shielded from all external effects
- Creatures outside cannot see or target anything inside
- Lasts 1 minute with concentration, but can be dropped as a free action
- Anyone inside the ward gains resistance to necrotic for 1 hour and gain +1 AC and +1 saving throws until long rest, as dark energy swirls around them protectively
Corruption Flaw — Tomb Shock
Each time you activate Protective Coffin, roll a d6:
- 1: Rodan takes 2d6 necrotic
- 2–6: No effect
Occasional whispers from the shield:
"Live forever in the dark…"
Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Combat, Warding
