Armor (plate), legendary

Aetherplate is just as highly sought after as Aetherblades. It enhances the wearers physical capabilities and durability, and protects the wearer from all but the most powerful forms of Aether (magic).

Aetherplate is made from thick interlocking plates of Abundium, Abundance's God Metal. Unlike dead Aetherplate, Gemini Aetherplate does not require gems infused with Aether to function, as the Aetherplate is made from common Chwinga. It also can be donned or doffed almost instantly, as the Gemini Knight can summon or dismiss their plate at will. This basically completely negates all of the downsides of 'dead' plate.

Unlike 'dead' plate, Gemini Aetherplate is capable of regenerating on its own, though it can take a while. Gemini Aetherplate can still be manually charged by a Gemini Knight, or with gems to speed up the process.

Unique Traits. Aetherplate adds the following unique traits:

Gemini Aetherplate. As a bonus action, you can call on the common chwinga that follow you to manifest as Aetherplate. You may choose how the armour looks in terms of colour, whether it glows or looks like 'dead' plate and if the helmet has eye slits or not. You may also choose to only summon part of your plate, or the full set. Bear in mind that you only gain the benefits of Aetherplate if you are wearing most of the plate; you may choose to summon all of the plate except for the helm, and still gain the benefits, for example.
You may also use a reaction to summon your Plate in response to being targeted by an attack, or to a creature of your choice that you can see within 60 ft. of you that is a target of an attack. If you do so, you must spend a charge of your Aetherplate summon it.

Aetherplate cannot be summoned while in the Cognitive Realm, Shadesmar.

Increased Protection. The Aetherplate provides the wearer with an AC of 20 and when you take damage, you reduce the amount taken by 5.

Charges (4 Charges). Aetherplate reinforces itself using Aether straight from the Spiritual Realm. Before you take damage while wearing Aetherplate, you may spend 1 charge to reduce the incoming damage by 10 points (in addition to the 5 damage reduction from the Increased Protection trait). While the plate has at least 1 charge, it is Aethered. If the plate runs out of charges it gets destroyed, shattering into molten metal. The lesser Chwinga can eventually repair themselves, but it takes time. Additionally for every unexpended charge the Plate has, you gain +5 walking speed.

These charges cannot be absorbed by a Gemini Knight's Absorb Aether ability.

Breakable. Lucky hits against Aetherplate can shatter plates of the armour, causing Aether to leak out. After you're hit from a critical attack while wearing Aetherplate, your opponent can use their opportunity to make your plate lose 1 charge.

Rechargeable. The Aetherplate can be recharged manually by gems infused with Aether, or from a Gemini Knight. However, Aetherplate requires a significant amount of Aether to be recharged, required 5 gems of Aether or 5 Aether Points to recover 1 charge. At the end of a long rest, roll a d4: 1-2 it recovers 1 charge and on a 3-4 it recovers 2 charges.

Enhanced. While wearing the Aetherplate, the wearer's strength and dexterity score is increased by 6. This can exceed the standard maximum score of 20.

Aethered Protection. While wearing Aetherplate, spell attacks against the wearer have disadvantage and the wearer gains advantage on saving throws made to resist a spell or other magical effect. Additionally, the wearer cannot choose to fail a saving throw against a spell or other forms of Aether. The wearer also gains resistance to all damage types from a spell or other magical effect.

Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
