Weapon (sabre), legendary (requires attunement)

“The blade remembers every sky it has crossed, and every oath broken beneath the stars.”

Description

The Astracrown Sabre is a weapon of astonishing refinement, a marriage of aristocratic craftsmanship, arcane engineering, and celestial force. At first glance, its hilt appears almost regal in construction, formed from darkened metal and polished rose-gold filigree that curls around the guard and collar in intricate, almost living patterns. The grip is tightly wrapped in midnight leather, fitted for a duelist’s hand, while the pommel and guard are studded with cosmic-glass insets that shimmer like fragments of a night sky held captive in metal. It is the sort of blade that looks equally at home on the hip of a princely champion, a planar executioner, or a high officer of some forgotten interworld court.

The sabre’s blade is where its legend truly begins. The steel itself is flawless and keen, but along one face flows a channel of luminous stellar radiance, blazing with deep sapphire, violet, and white pinpricks like a river of newborn constellations. This light is not decorative. It moves. It pulses. It gathers in clusters and surges along the edge as though the sabre contains a living map of distant heavens. When drawn in darkness, the Astracrown Sabre paints the air with an afterimage of glimmering lines, as if each movement briefly traces a hidden route between worlds.

In combat, the blade feels unnaturally responsive. It is light without being fragile, swift without losing authority. A practiced user can flow from cut to thrust to parry with terrifying grace, while the stellar current within the blade brightens whenever blood is shed or magic is invoked nearby. Witnesses often describe the sensation of fighting against it as disorienting, as though the sabre arrives a heartbeat before its wielder’s hand completes the motion. Against armored foes it shears with surgical precision; against the unguarded it strikes like a fragment of the night sky made merciless.

The Astracrown Sabre is favored by elite duelists, spellblades, oathbound nobles, extraplanar couriers, and those who move between courts, worlds, and wars. It does not suit a crude butcher. It demands poise, timing, and intent. In the hands of a master, it becomes less a sword and more a decree written in light: elegant, final, and difficult to challenge twice.

Magical Properties and Features

  1. Crowned Star-Edge

The Astracrown Sabre is a Legendary magic weapon that grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

In addition, it deals an extra 1d8 radiant damage on a hit. This radiant damage manifests as concentrated stellar brilliance that flares through the wound, leaving behind faint motes of light that fade only after several heartbeats.

  1. Celestial Duellist’s Measure

The sabre’s enchantment constantly reads motion, balance, and hostile intent.

While attuned to the Astracrown Sabre, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a +2 bonus to Armor Class while wielding the sabre
  • You have advantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks made during combat
  • Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with the sabre, you may move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks

This movement is fluid and almost weightless, often appearing like a brief sidestep through starlight.

  1. Constellation Sever

The sabre is exquisitely deadly against creatures sustained by magical force, extraplanar origin, or supernatural mobility.

Once per turn when you hit a creature with the Astracrown Sabre, you may force it to make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target suffers one of the following effects of your choice until the start of your next turn:

  • Dimmed Path: The creature cannot teleport or use extradimensional movement
  • Riven Guard: The creature has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes
  • Broken Step: The creature’s speed is reduced to 0

You may use this property a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

  1. Astral Coronation

Once per long rest, you may invoke the Astracrown Sabre’s full majesty as a bonus action for 1 minute. During this time:

  • The weapon’s extra radiant damage increases from 1d8 to 2d8
  • Your attacks with the sabre score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20
  • You gain a flying speed of 30 feet
  • Once per turn, after you hit a creature with the sabre, you may immediately teleport up to 20 feet to an unoccupied space you can see

While this power is active, the stellar current in the blade erupts into a bright, living cascade, and your movements leave comet-like streaks of pale blue and violet light in the air.

Weapon Bonuses

Attribute Bonus:
While attuned to the Astracrown Sabre, you gain a +2 bonus to Dexterity or Charisma of your choice, to a maximum of 22.

Magic Bonus:
+3 to attack and damage rolls.

Skill Bonus:
You gain a +3 bonus to Acrobatics and Persuasion checks while carrying the sabre.

Proficiency Bonus:
If you are proficient with sabres, rapiers, scimitars, or longswords, you may add double your proficiency bonus to one attack roll or Charisma check made in a formal challenge, duel, or noble audience per short or long rest.

Drawbacks and Risks

Legendary beauty has its price.

Beacon of the Heavens. The Astracrown Sabre is difficult to fully conceal. When drawn, it sheds bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. Creatures attuned to magic, celestials, extraplanar hunters, and collectors of rare relics may notice or sense its presence more easily than an ordinary weapon.

Pride of the Crowned Void. The sabre despises indignity. If you use it to strike a helpless creature, commit an act of petty cruelty, or flee a formal duel or sworn confrontation without grave cause, the blade’s light gutters. Until the next dawn, you lose its extra radiant damage and take a -1 penalty to Charisma checks as the sabre’s majestic bearing withdraws from you.

Lore and History

The Astracrown Sabre is said to have been forged for a ruler who held court not in one kingdom, but in the corridors between kingdoms, where treaties, debts, marriages, and assassinations shaped the fate of worlds. Some name it a relic of the Hallway of Worlds. Others insist it was carried by a vanished knight-house that swore to keep the stars themselves from being bartered by mortals. In one particularly bitter account, the sabre passed into the hands of a betrayed champion who used it to cut through both royal bodyguards and planar seals in a single night, leaving behind a court lit only by its fading starlight. Since then, the blade appears wherever elegance and catastrophe decide to share the same room.

Additional Roleplay Features

  1. Courtly Gravity

The Astracrown Sabre transforms the atmosphere around its bearer. Nobles, scholars, mercenaries, and extraplanar envoys alike tend to assume its wielder is someone of great rank or dangerous importance. Even sheathed, it exerts a quiet pressure on conversation, like a title no one has spoken aloud yet.

  1. Star-Memory Resonance

At night, or beneath open skies, the sabre occasionally brightens in response to constellations, planar alignments, portals, or oaths spoken in earnest. This makes it a wonderful story instrument for prophecy, navigation, ancient pacts, and scenes where the heavens seem to listen.

  1. Relic of a Broken Throne

The weapon fits naturally into tales of shattered dynasties, missing heirs, extradimensional courts, or old vows that still bind the living. It could serve as proof of claim, a seal of office, a sentence of exile, or the last surviving treasure of a house erased from mortal record.
