Weapon (whip), legendary (requires attunement)

Lier is an Archon Arm, one of several unique weapons forged from Orichalcum by the Heavenly Craftsman, Gond. It takes the form of a long sash made of opalescent cloth. Like all Orichalcum weapons, it shimmers in multiple colors and is always perfectly visible, even in complete darkness, even though it gives off no light. Lier is sentient and can speak with its wielder telepathically. It is of Lawful Neutral alignment, and espouses loyalty as the highest of virtues, encouraging its wielder to stay true to their allies and superiors, regardless of morality of good or evil.

A creature attuned to Lier has the following benefits:

  • They have expertise in Persuasion checks.
  • They have resistance to Radiant and Necrotic damage
  • When they take the Attack action using Lier, they can forgo damage to instead force the target to make a Strength saving throw (DC = 15 + the attuned creature's proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the target is Restrained.

A creature attuned to Lier can spend a bonus action to tie it around their eyes as a blindfold, gaining the following effects:

  • They gain Temporary Hit Points equal to their Hit Point Maximum
  • They gain Blindsight out to 30 feet
  • When a creature they can sense within 30 feet of them takes an action, they can cast Hold Monster as a reaction (DC = 15 + the attuned creature's proficiency bonus) without expending a spell slot

After one minute, or the Temporary Hit Points granted by this feature are reduced to zero, the attuned creature is reduced to zero hit points but isn't dead, and Lier unties itself. Afterwards, the attuned creature has one level of exhaustion and cant use this feature again for 1D10 days.

If a creature attuned to Lier dies, its body dissolves into golden light, and it's soul ascends to heaven. It cannot be revived except by a True Resurrection or Wish spell, and if revived this way is revived as an Aasimar instead of their original race.

If a creature attuned to Lier willingly disobeys an order given by a superior, they can choose to take 5D10 psychic damage as Lier berates them for being disloyal. If they choose not to take this damage, they cannot use any features granted by Lier as Lier adamantly refuses to aid them.

Proficiency with a Whip allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
