This item has 3 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dawn.
Aboleth Mnemonics. While holding the crystal, you can use an action and expend 1 charge to spend 1 minute meditating, replaying one of the aboleth's preserved memories as a full sensory experience. The vision is alien, non-linear, and profoundly old, but contains actionable intelligence at the GM's discretion. The crystal holds 3 accessible memories total.
Psychic Cartography. While holding the crystal, you can use an action to project one of the aboleth's spatial memories as a 3D illusory map visible to all creatures within 10 feet of you for 1 minute. The map reveals routes, structures, and locations the aboleth once knew, including paths deeper than any existing cartography. Each use consumes one of the crystal's 3 stored memories (see Aboleth Mnemonics).
Imprinted Sight. While holding the crystal, you can use an action and expend 1 charge to perceive as the aboleth once did for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain tremorsense 30 ft., blindsight 10 ft., and can sense the presence and general location of any creature currently touching water you are also touching. When the effect ends, make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of your next turn.
Rewrite Memory. While holding the crystal, you can use an action and expend 2 charges to cast Modify Memory
Psionic Resonance. While attuned to this item, NPCs with latent psionic sensitivity (GM's discretion) may become passively aware of your general location, as though the aboleth within the crystal broadcasts your position.
Curse. This item is cursed. Once you attune to it, you cannot end your attunement voluntarily unless targeted by a remove curse spell or similar magic. After 7 days of continuous attunement, the aboleth's psychic imprint deepens: you make Wisdom saving throws against Aboleth Taint and Imprinted Sight with disadvantage
Aboleth Taint. If you fail 3 or more Wisdom saving throws caused by this item, you contract Aboleth Taint. While tainted, you are compelled to return to the flooded shaft after each long rest unless you succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw at the end of that rest. On a failed save, you must use your movement on your next turn to move toward the shaft by the most direct route available, and you cannot willingly move away from it until the start of your following turn. This compulsion repeats each day until the taint is removed. Aboleth Taint can be cured by a remove curse spell (DC 15) or by a greater restoration spell.
